Immunologic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) is a condition that affects four to 18 per 100 000 children every year. In most cases, spontaneous remission occurs, but splenectomy may be proposed. Exploring the site of platelet sequestration can help to better predict potential poor responders to splenectomy, but In-radiolabeled platelet scintigraphy (IPS) can be difficult to perform in children with very few platelets.

Introduction: Despite the high mortality rate of acute untreated pulmonary embolism (PE) at 30%, diagnosing PE is challenging. While the prevalence of PE has decreased in recent years, the overuse of computed tomography pulmonary angiography (CTPA) remains a concern. The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) provides guidelines using the Wells score for PE assessment.

There has been remarkable growth in our understanding of the biologic behavior and molecular signature of thyroid malignancies, which has led to the introduction, application, and evolution of molecular testing of thyroid nodule FNA cytology. Next-generation sequencing molecular testing is an important, well-validated diagnostic tool for management of cytologically indeterminate thyroid nodules. It reduces unnecessary thyroid surgery for benign disease, avoiding associated surgical risks for the patient and reducing healthcare expenses.

Background: Timely palliative and hospice care, along with advanced care planning, can reduce avoidable high-intensity care and improve quality of life at the end of life (EoL).
Objective: We examined patterns of care at EoL and evaluated predictors of high-intensity care at EoL among adults aged 18-64 with cancer.
Methods: Using data from the Puerto Rico Central Cancer Registry-Health Insurance Linkage Database, we examined 1359 patients diagnosed with cancer in 2010-2019, who died of cancer between 2017 and 2019 at 64 years and younger, and who were enrolled in Medicaid or private health insurance in last 30 days before death.

Current guidelines recommend cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) programming, including faster detection rates, longer detection durations, and strict discrimination for supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) to prevent unnecessary ICD treatment. This delayed-style ICD programming could lead to a rise in the possibility of VF undersensing. To avoid this risk, an innovative algorithm known as VF Therapy Assurance (VFTA; Abbott, Sylmar, CA) has been developed.
