The binary compounds GdIr, TbIr and HoIr are synthesized successfully and found to form with macroscopic co-existence of two polymorphic phases: AuBe (C15b) and AuCu-type. The dc magnetization and heat capacity studies confirm that the C15b phase orders ferromagnetically, whereas the AuCu phase remains paramagnetic down to 2 K. The frequency dependent ac-susceptibility data, time dependent magnetic relaxation behavior and magnetic memory effect studies suggest that TbIr and HoIr are cannonical spin-glass systems, but no glassy feature could be found in GdIr. The critical behavior of all three compounds has been investigated using the magnetization and heat capacity measurements around the transition temperature (T). The critical exponents α, β, γ and δ have been estimated using different techniques such as the Arrott-Noakes plot, Kouvel-Fisher plot and critical isotherm as well as analysis of specific heat data and study of magnetocaloric effect. The critical analysis study identifies the type of universal magnetic class in which the three compounds belong.

Resolving and routing magnetic polymorphs in a 2D layered antiferromagnet.

Polymorphism, commonly denoting diverse molecular or crystal structures, is crucial in the natural sciences. In van der Waals antiferromagnets, a new type of magnetic polymorphism arises, presenting multiple layer-selective magnetic structures with identical total magnetization. However, resolving and manipulating such magnetic polymorphs remain challenging.

Purpose: To evaluate the drug-drug interactions (DDI) of tunodafil (youkenafil), a novel phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitor, its inhibitory effects on CYP450 enzymes in vitro and its clinical trials in combination with ritonavir or omeprazole were conducted.

Methods: The inhibitory effect of tunodafil on seven major CYP450 enzymes in human liver microsomes was investigated by probe substrate method. The effect of tunodafil on the pharmacokinetics of omeprazole (CYP2C19 substrate) in 40 healthy subjects, who received a single dose of 40 mg omeprazole in combination with tunodafil on the day 8 after taking 100 mg tunodafil daily for 7 days, was assessed based on CYP2C19 genotypes.

Background & Aims: A common genetic variant (rs738409) encoding isoleucine to methionine at position 148 in the PNPLA3 protein is a determinant of hepatic steatosis, inflammation, fibrosis, cirrhosis, and liver-related mortality. AZD2693 is a liver-targeted antisense oligonucleotide against PNPLA3 mRNA. We evaluated the safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics in single ascending dose (SAD) and multiple ascending dose (MAD) studies.

Deciphering the Complexity of Step Profiles on Vicinal Si(001) Surfaces Through Multiscale Simulations.

Small

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Materials for Integrated Circuits, Shanghai Institute of Microsystem and Information Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai, 200050, China.

The behavior of vicinal Si(001) surfaces are a subject of intense research for years, yet the mechanism behind its step modulation remains unresolved. Step B, in particular, can meander randomly or form a periodic zigzag profile, a surface phenomenon that has eluded explanation due to the lack of appropriate simulation tools. Here, a multiscale simulation strategy, enhanced by machine learning potentials are proposed, to investigate this mesoscale behavior.

Polyphenolic compounds are key elements in sectors such as pharmaceutics, cosmetics and food; thus, their physicochemical characterization is a vital task. In this work, the thermal behavior of seven polyphenols (-resveratrol, -polydatin, kaempferol, quercetin, myricetin, hesperidin, and (-)-epicatechin) was investigated with DSC (differential scanning calorimetry) and TGA (thermogravimetric analysis). Melting temperatures, enthalpies of fusion and decomposition temperatures were determined, and heat capacities were measured in the temperature range from 283.
