Two new camaenid land snails are reported from Central China. The new genus, represented by Wu & Chen, , the type of the genus from Sichuan, is close to Habe, Habe, Minato and Pilsbry, but is well characterized by the smooth adult shell, highly developed epiphallic papilla, absence of penial caecum, and the presence of an epiphallus-binding muscle that binds the proximal epiphallus to the distal penis. A new species Wu & Chen, is described from Hubei Province and is characterized by having two shell bands, a spoon-shaped love dart and the proportionally shortest mucous glands among Chinese congeners.

We report a new land snail species representing a new genus from the mountainous area of Zhejiang, China. The snail has a depressed shell with granules all over the surface. The soft part of the new taxon is characterized by the presence of a mantle lobe whose form is reviewed herein across a wide range of helicoid snails, the presence of a developed epiphallic papilla, and the absence of a penial sheath, a dart sac apparatus and a flagellum.

Article Synopsis
  • The mitochondrial genome of the Chinese endemic snail has been fully sequenced, measuring 13,985 base pairs, making it the third known mt genome within its family.
  • This genome contains 2 ribosomal RNA genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, and 13 protein-coding genes, with 24 on the majority coding strand and the remainder on the minority coding strand.
  • Phylogenetic analysis indicates that this snail species is closely related to others within the Camaenidae family.
