The investigation of GABAergic inhibitory circuits has substantially expanded over the past few years. The development of new tools and technology has allowed investigators to classify many diverse groups of inhibitory neurons by several delineating factors: these include their connectivity motifs, expression of specific molecular markers, receptor diversity, and ultimately their role in brain function. Despite this progress, however, there is still limited understanding of how GABAergic neurons are recruited by their input and how their activity is modulated by behavioral states. This limitation is primarily due to the fact that studies of GABAergic inhibition are mainly geared toward determining how, once activated, inhibitory circuits regulate the activity of excitatory neurons. In this review article, we will outline recent work investigating the anatomical and physiological properties of inputs that activate cortical GABAergic neurons, and discuss how these inhibitory cells are differentially recruited during behavior.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) remains an aggressive malignancy. The occurrence of perineural invasion is associated with neuropathic pain and poor prognosis of PDAC, underscoring the active participation of nerves and their potential as therapeutic targets. Lidocaine is a local anesthetic with antitumor properties in some tumors in the clinic.

Activation of the brain-penetrant beta3-adrenergic receptor (Adrb3) is implicated in the treatment of depressive disorders. Enhancing GABAergic inputs from interneurons onto pyramidal cells of prefrontal cortex (PFC) represents a strategy for antidepressant therapies. Here, we probed the effects of the activation of Adrb3 on GABAergic transmission onto pyramidal neurons in the PFC using in vitro electrophysiology.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Jieyu I Formula (JY-I) is an improved version of the classic formula "Sini San" documented in the books Shanghan Lun, which is known for regulating the liver and treating depression. However, the disturbance of neuronal signal transmission in the neural circuit of the brain is closely related to the occurrence of depression, yet its neural mechanism is still unclear.
Aim Of The Study: This study aimed to observe the antidepressant effect of JY-I on depressed mice induced by lipopolysaccharide and its underlying central nervous system mechanisms, focusing on the prefrontal cortex (PFC) to lateral habenular nucleus (LHb) neural circuit in the depressed mice model.

Background: The medial prefrontal cortex plays a crucial role in regulating consciousness. However, the specific functions of its excitatory and inhibitory networks during anesthesia remain uncertain. Here we explored the hypothesis that somatostatin interneurons in the medial prefrontal cortex enhance the effects of sevoflurane anesthesia by increasing GABA transmission to pyramidal neurons.

We have studied how ongoing experience reorganizes the synaptic connectivity of neurons in the olfactory (piriform) cortex of the mouse. We developed an approach to measure synaptic connectivity , training a deep convolutional network to reliably identify monosynaptic connections from the spike-time cross-correlograms of 4.
