Vancomycin analogues bearing an A-ring trimethylammonium salt modification were synthesized and their antimicrobial activity against vancomycin-resistant Enterococci (VRE) was evaluated. The modification increased antimicrobial potency and provided the capability to induce bacteria cell membrane permeabilization, but both properties were weaker than that found with our earlier reported similar C-terminus modification. The results provide further insights on the additive effect and generalizability of the structural and site-specific nature of a peripheral quaternary trimethylammonium salt modification of vancomycin.

Interaction of a novel dihydroxy dibenzoazacrown (HDTC) with various surfactants of different charges, for example, anionic (sodium dodecylsulfate, SDS), cationic (dodecyl trimethylammonium bromide, DTAB), cationic gemini (butanediyl-1,4-bis(dimethylcetylammonium bromide), 16-4-16), ionic liquid (1-hexadecyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride, CMImCl), and nonionic (polyoxyethylene sorbitan monostearate, Tween-60), has been investigated at a widespread range of surfactant concentrations (including premicellar, micellar, and postmicellar regime) in 15% (v/v) EtOH medium at room temperature. Several experimental techniques, viz., tensiometry, UV-vis spectroscopy, and steady-state fluorimetry, are implemented to explicate these interactions.

In microwave (MW) thermotherapy, it is challenging to regulate the temporal and spatial distribution of the temperature at the nanoscale. Herein, we report a nanothermometer for simultaneous MW heating and temperature distribution measurement. The nanothermometer was prepared by free radical polymerization with vinylbenzyl trimethylammonium chloride (VBTMACl) as the MW thermosensitizer and isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM) as the thermoresponsive unit, followed by anion exchange with fluorophore sodium 3-(4-(1,2,2-triphenylvinyl)phenoxy)propane-1-sulfonate (TPESONa).

Background: Boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) is a tumor-selective particle radiotherapy that combines preferential boron accumulation in tumors and neutron irradiation. Based on previous studies in tumor-bearing mice, this study evaluated the biodistribution of the sodium salt of cobaltabis(dicarbollide) (Na[3,3'-Co(CBH)], abbreviated as Na[-COSAN]) in the hamster cheek pouch oral cancer model and the Na[-COSAN]/BNCT therapeutic effect on tumors and induced radiotoxicity. The synthesis and comprehensive characterization of B-enriched trimethylammonium salt of -[7,8-CBH]-carborane, along with the cesium and sodium salts of [-COSAN] cobaltabis(dicarbollide) are reported here for the first time.

The aim of the current study is to develop chitosan-based biomaterials which can sustainably release acetylsalicylic acid while presenting significant biological activity. Herein, an innovative ionic bonding strategy between hydroxypropyl trimethyl ammonium chloride chitosan (HACC) and acetylsalicylic acid (AA) was proposed, skillfully utilizing the electrostatic attraction of the ionic bond to achieve the controlled release of drugs. Based on this point, six crosslinked -[(2-hydroxy-3-trimethylammonium)propyl]chitosan acetylsalicylic acid salt (CHACAA) hydrogel films with varying acetylsalicylic acid contents were prepared by a crosslinking reaction.
