A complete experimental and theoretical study has been carried out for aromatic and quinoidal perylene-based bridges substituted with bis(diarylamine) and bis(arylimine) groups respectively. The through-bridge inter-redox site electronic couplings (V ) have been calculated for their respective mixed-valence radical cation and radical anion species. The unusual similitudes of the resulting V values for the given structures reveal the intervention of molecular shapes with balanced semi-quinoidal/semi-aromatic structures in the charge delocalization. An identical molecular object equally responding to the injection of either positive or negative charges is rare in the field of organic π-conjugated molecules. However, once probed herein for perylene-based systems, it can be extrapolated to other π-conjugated bridges. As a result, this work opens the door to the rational design of true ambipolar bulk and molecular conductors.

Tumor microenvironment activatable therapeutic agents and their effective tumor accumulation are significant for selective tumor treatment. Herein, we provide an unadulterated nanomaterial combining the above advantages. We synthesize a perylene diimide (PDI) molecule substituted by glutamic acid (Glu), which can self-assemble into small spherical nanoparticles (PDI-SG) in aqueous solution.

Despite the development of various controlled release systems for antitumor therapies, off-target side effects remain a persistent challenge. In situ therapeutic synthesis from biocompatible substances offers a safer and more precise alternative. This study presents a hypoxia-initiated supramolecular free radical system capable of inducing intracellular polymerization, thereby disrupting the cytoskeleton and organelles within 4T1 cells.

Fluorescent metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are promising sensing materials that have received much attention in recent years, in which the organic ligand conformation changes usually lead to variations of their sensing behavior. Based on this, in the present work, perylene diimide (PDI) derivatives with excellent photochemical properties closely related to their conformation and molecule packing fashion were selected as organic linkers to detect sarin simulant diethyl chlorophosphate (DCP). By the coordination interactions with large lanthanide cations through terminal carboxylate groups from the PDI derivative, a series of one-dimensional coordination polymers, named [Ln(PDICl-2COO)(μ-O)(DMF)] (SNNU-112, Ln = Yb/Tb/Sm/Nd/Pr/Gd/Eu/Er/Ce, PDICl-2COOH = ,'-bis(4-benzoic acid)-1,2,6,7-tetrachlorohydrazone-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylic acid diimide) were synthesized.

The transient dynamics of photocurrents for poly((4-diphenylamino)benzyl acrylate) (PDAA)-based photorefractive (PR) polymers sensitized with perylene bisimide derivative N,N'-diisopropylphenyl-1,6,7,12-tetrachloroperylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxyl bisimide (PBI) at various composition ratios were studied. The PR polymer included (4-(diphenylamino)phenyl)methanol (TPAOH) photoconductive plasticizer and (4-(azepan-1-yl)-benzylidene) malononitrile nonlinear optical dye as well, which are needed for inducing PR effects. All the photocurrents measured at 640 nm were well simulated by a two-trapping site model considering photocarrier generation and recombination processes of the charge transfer (CT) complex between PBI and PDAA.

Dopamine (DA) is an important catecholamine neurotransmitter and its abnormal concentration is closely related to diseases such as hypertension, Parkinson's disease and schizophrenia. Due to the advantages of high sensitivity and fast response for electrochemiluminescence (ECL), developing ECL sensors for detecting DA was very critical in clinical diagnosis. ECL resonance energy transfer (ECL-RET) was an effective signaling mechanism.
