Flavor Symmetries and Unitarity Bounds in N=2 Superconformal Field Theories.

Published: June 2019

In this Letter I analyze the constraints imposed by unitarity on the flavor central charges of four-dimensional N=2 superconformal field theories with general reductive global symmetry groups. I derive several general and far-reaching consequences of unitarity by computing the norms of flavor singlet Higgs branch operators appearing in the squares of "moment map" operators via the associated vertex operator algebra, and imposing the requirement that they be non-negative.

We give an elementary proof of the following property of unitary, interacting four-dimensional N=2 superconformal field theories: At large central charge c, there exist at least sqrt[c] single-trace, scalar superconformal primary operators with dimensions Δ≲sqrt[c] (suppressing multiplicative logarithmic corrections). This follows from a stronger, more refined bound on the spectral density in terms of the asymptotic growth rate of the central charge. The proof employs known results on the structure of Coulomb branch operators.

We find an intriguing relation between a class of three-dimensional nonunitary topological field theories (TFTs) and Virasoro minimal models M(2,2r+3) with r≥1. The TFTs are constructed by topologically twisting 3D N=4 superconformal field theories (SCFTs) of rank-0, i.e.

The correspondence between four-dimensional superconformal field theories and vertex operator algebras, when applied to theories of class , leads to a rich family of VOAs that have been given the monicker . A remarkably uniform construction of these vertex operator algebras has been put forward by Tomoyuki Arakawa in Arakawa (Chiral algebras of class and Moore-Tachikawa symplectic varieties, 2018. arXiv:1811.

In a four-dimensional N=2 superconformal quiver theory with gauge group SU(N)×SU(N) and bifundamental matter, we analytically obtain the exact strong-coupling behavior of the normalized 3-point correlators of single-trace scalar operators in the large-N limit using localization techniques. We then obtain the same strong-coupling behavior from the holographic dual using the AdS/CFT correspondence at the supergravity level. This agreement confirms the validity of the analytic strong-coupling results and of the holographic correspondence in a nonmaximally supersymmetric setup in four dimensions.

Supersymmetric Five-Point Gluon Amplitudes in AdS Space.

We present the tree-level five-point amplitude of the lowest Kaluza-Klein mode of super-Yang-Mills theory on AdS_{5}×S^{3}, dual to the correlator of the flavor current multiplet in the dual 4d N=2 superconformal field theory. Its color and kinematical structure is particularly simple and resembles that of the flat-space gluon amplitude.
