The 12th GCC Closed Forum was held in Philadelphia, PA, USA, on 9 April 2018. Representatives from international bioanalytical Contract Research Organizations were in attendance in order to discuss scientific and regulatory issues specific to bioanalysis. The issues discussed at the meeting included: critical reagents; oligonucleotides; certificates of analysis; method transfer; high resolution mass spectrometry; flow cytometry; recent regulatory findings and case studies involving stability and nonclinical immunogenicity. Conclusions and consensus from discussions of these topics are included in this article.

Purpose: To use optic coherence tomography (OCT) to evaluate idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) patients with subclinical segmental optic atrophy despite being under apparently effective treatment.
Methods: IIH patients underwent an OCT examination including the peripapillary retina never fiber layer (RNFL) thickness, ganglion cell complex (GCC) thickness, focal loss volume (FLV) and global loss volume (GLV) of the GCC, and total macular thickness measurements at presentation and at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months after the diagnosis. The obtained data were compared with healthy subjects.

Collecting and curating large medical-image datasets for deep neural network (DNN) algorithm development is typically difficult and resource-intensive. While transfer learning (TL) decreases reliance on large data collections, current TL implementations are tailored to two-dimensional (2D) datasets, limiting applicability to volumetric imaging (e.g.

Over the last decade, the use of biomarker data has become integral to drug development. Biomarkers are not only utilized for internal decision-making by sponsors; they are increasingly utilized to make critical decisions for drug safety and efficacy. As the regulatory agencies are routinely making decisions based on biomarker data, there has been significant scrutiny on the validation of biomarker methods.

Heat-stable toxin (STa)-producing enterotoxigenic (ETEC) strains are a top cause of moderate-to-severe diarrhea in children from developing countries and a common cause of travelers' diarrhea. Recent progress in using STa toxoids and toxoid fusions to induce neutralizing anti-STa antibodies has accelerated ETEC vaccine development. However, concern remains regarding whether the derived anti-STa antibodies cross-react with STa-like guanylin and uroguanylin, two guanylate cyclase C (GC-C) ligands regulating fluid and electrolyte transportation in human intestinal and renal epithelial cells.
