Spatial separation of water dimers from water monomers and larger water clusters through the electric deflector is presented. A beam of water dimers with 93% purity and a rotational temperature of 1.5 K was obtained. Following strong-field ionization using a 35 fs laser pulse with a wavelength centered around 800 nm and a peak intensity of 10 W/cm, we observed proton transfer and 46% of ionized water dimers broke apart into hydronium ions HO and neutral OH.

The factors controlling the catalytic activity in photochemical hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) are studied in detail for two macrocyclic cobalt compounds bearing two N-heterocyclic carbenes and two pyridyl donors ( and , where has a methoxy substituent on each pyridyl ligand). The present study adopts an aqueous photosystem consisting of EDTA, [Ru(bpy)] (bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine), and MV (MV = methylviologen) at pH = 5. Both catalysts are shown to promote HER in a similar efficiency (TON = 12-13 in 6 h), revealing a minor contribution of the electron-donating methoxy substituents.

At present, the defluorination of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs), including perfluoroether compounds as substitutes of perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctanesulfonate, is limited by the effective active species produced during the oxidation-reduction process. The contribution of the hydrogen radical (•H) as a companion active substance in the photoreduction and electrocatalytic degradation of PFASs has been neglected. Herein, we demonstrate that perfluorocarboxylic acids and perfluoroether compounds such as PFOA and hexafluoropropylene oxide dimer acid (GenX) underwent near-complete photodegradation and effective defluorination by continuously generating •H through perfluoroalkyl radical activation of water under UV irradiation without any reagents and catalysts.

This study focuses on the quaternary structure of the viper-secreted phospholipase A (PLA), a central toxin in viper envenomation. PLA enzymes catalyse the hydrolysis of the sn-2 ester bond of membrane phospholipids. Small-molecule inhibitors that act as snakebite antidotes, such as varespladib, are currently in clinical trials.

Understanding the molecular mechanism of inhibitor binding to prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) is of fundamental importance for designing targeted drugs for prostate cancer. Here we designed a series of PSMA-targeting inhibitors with distinct molecular structures, which were synthesized and characterized using both experimental and computational approaches. Microsecond molecular dynamics simulations revealed the structural and thermodynamic details of PSMA-inhibitor interactions.

Various nanodrug vehicles were well-designed with complicated functions for tumor therapy. However, the unsatisfactory tumor delivery efficiency and uncertain off-target release became the stumbling block of the nanodrugs on the way to the clinic. Inspired by efficient tumor targeting ability of albumin, we reported a simplified biomimetic peptide-based vehicle synthesized by copolymerizing L-glutamyl-L-lysine unit (EK dimer, an intrinsic surface peptide pair from albumin) with L-phenylalanine (F) to encapsulate doxorubicin (Dox).
