We describe the development and verification of an optical, powder-free, intraoral scanner based on a chromatic confocal imaging system, which has been realized in a single-shot multifocal approach. The system is based on a combination of micro-optical and dispersion optical elements. The methodology of recording and analyzing the acquired data are discussed in detail. A proof of concept with the application in intraoral scanning is provided. According to the current findings, the measurement uncertainty, scan speed, and overall performance of the device can well compete with the state-of-the-art of commercially available intraoral scanners.

On the ethical governance of swarm robotic systems in the real world.

Philos Trans A Math Phys Eng Sci

Bristol Robotics Laboratory, School of Engineering Mathematics and Technology, University of Bristol, Bristol BS8 1TW, UK.

In this paper, we address the question: what practices would be required for the responsible design and operation of real-world swarm robotic systems? We argue that swarm robotic systems must be developed and operated within a framework of ethical governance. We will also explore the human factors surrounding the operation and management of swarm systems, advancing the view that human factors are no less important to swarm robots than social robots. Ethical governance must be anticipatory, and a powerful method for practical anticipatory governance is ethical risk assessment (ERA).

Objective: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR), a global threat driven by factors such as improper antimicrobial use in humans and animals, is projected to cause 10 million annual deaths by 2050. For behavior change, public health messages must be tailored for diverse audiences. Generative AI may have the potential to create culturally and linguistically suited AMR awareness messages.

Massively parallel Hong-Ou-Mandel interference based on independent soliton microcombs.

Hong-Ou-Mandel (HOM) interference is the foundation of quantum optics to test the degree of indistinguishability of two incoming photons, playing a key role in quantum communication, sensing, and photonic quantum computing. Realizing high-visibility HOM interference with massively parallel optical channels is challenging due to the lack of available natural optical references for aligning independent arrayed laser pairs. Here, we demonstrate 50 parallel comb-teeth pairs of continuous-wave weak coherent photons HOM interference using two independently frequency post-aligned soliton microcombs (SMCs), achieving an average fringe visibility over 46%.

Introduction: This article presents a verification of the factor structure and validation of the Questionnaire of Achievement of Developmental Task (QADT), designed to measure children's social expectations in early childhood. Three tasks, important from the point of view of both children's functioning at a given life stage and preparation for the next developmental phase, were selected. These are school skills, cooperation with others and a sense of competence.
