Medical implants are designed to replace missing parts or improve body functions and must be capable of providing structural support or therapeutic intervention for a medical condition. Advances in materials science have enabled the development of devices made from metals, polymers, bioceramics, and composites, each with its specific advantages and limitations. This review analyzes the incorporation of biopolymers, proteins, and other biomacromolecules into implants, focusing on their role in biological integration and therapeutic functions.

Recent advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) have shown significant potential in the medical field, although many applications are still in the research phase. This paper provides a comprehensive review of advancements in augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR), and virtual reality (VR) for surgical applications from 2019 to 2024 to accelerate the transition of AI from the research to the clinical phase. This paper also provides an overview of proposed databases for further use in extended reality (XR), which includes AR, MR, and VR, as well as a summary of typical research applications involving XR in surgical practices.

Background: This study aimed to analyze the changing trend of diabetes drugs clinical trials in China during 2013-2023, and provided a reference for the research and development of diabetes drugs.
Methods: Diabetes drug clinical trial data were obtained from the registration and information disclosure platform of the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) between January 1, 2013, and December 31, 2023. Trends of clinical trials on diabetes drugs were systematically analyzed in terms of characteristics, trial design, time trends, drug type, and indications.

This study proposes fluorenylmethoxycarbonyl (Fmoc)-protected single amino acids (Fmoc-AAs) as a minimalistic model system to investigate liquid-liquid phase separation (LLPS) and the elusive liquid-to-solid transition of condensates. We demonstrated that Fmoc-AAs exhibit LLPS depending on the pH and ionic strength, primarily driven by hydrophobic interactions. Systematic examination of the conditions under which each Fmoc-AA undergoes LLPS revealed distinct residue-dependent trends in the critical concentrations and phase behavior.
