The cobalt-catalyzed chelation-assisted C-H iodination of aromatic amides using molecular iodine as an iodinating reagent is reported. The reaction is carried out in an atmosphere of air and uses Co(OAc)·4HO as an efficient catalyst and 4-chloro-2-(4,5-dihydrooxazol-2-yl)aniline as a directing group. The reaction shows a wide functional group tolerance. Mechanistic studies suggest that the reaction proceeds through a different mechanism from that of our previously reported transformation in which a Co(II) catalyst/8-amino-5-choloroquinoline chelation system was used.

Organic-inorganic hybrid lead halides have been extensively studied due to their outstanding physical properties and diverse compositional elements. However, environmentally benign tin-based hybrids with remarkable flexibility in bandgap engineering have been less investigated. Herein, we report the successful design and synthesis of three tin-based organic-inorganic hybrid compounds through precise molecular modification: [Me(i-Pr)N][SnBr] (), [MeCHCl(i-Pr)N][SnBr] (), and [MeCHBr(i-Pr-Br)N][SnBr] ().

Pt/IrO enables selective electrochemical C-H chlorination at high current.

Nat Commun

Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, National University of Singapore, Singapore, Republic of Singapore.

Employing electrochemistry for the selective functionalization of liquid alkanes allows for sustainable and efficient production of high-value chemicals. However, the large potentials required for C(sp)-H bond functionalization and low water solubility of such alkanes make it challenging. Here we discover that a Pt/IrO electrocatalyst with optimized Cl binding energy enables selective generation of Cl free radicals for C-H chlorination of alkanes.

Hypervalent Iodine-Mediated Synthesis of Steroidal 5/5-Spiroiminals.

The hypervalent iodine-mediated formation of steroidal 5/5-spiroiminals and 5/5-spiroaminals from steroidal amines is presented. Under the influence of excess PhI(OAc) and iodine in acetonitrile at 0 °C, steroidal amines smoothly underwent cyclization to give a mixture of 5/5-spiroiminals and 5/5-spiroaminals. This reaction represents the first example of a C-H-activation-mediated formation of a spiroiminal.

Fused heterocyclic scaffolds, such as benzimidazoles or larger ring systems containing a benzimidazole fragment, are frequently encountered in pharmaceutical compounds and other biologically active molecules. While there are many examples of N9- and/or C3-substituted 9-benzo[4,5]imidazo[2,1-][1,2,4]triazoles, current examples of the regioselective preparation of N1-substituted 1-benzo[4,5]imidazo[2,1-][1,2,4]triazoles are limited to N1-aryl substituted compounds, which also contain a C3-substituent. Here, we report an iodine-promoted C-H bond amination reaction that allows the selective preparation of 1-benzo[4,5]imidazo[2,1-][1,2,4]triazoles with a variety of aryl and alkyl N1-substituents.

Herein, we introduce a mild and efficient method for synthesizing aniline biaryls and unsymmetrical phenol biaryls through iodine-catalyzed coupling of quinone imine ketals (QIKs)/quinonemonoacetals (QMAs) and -naphthols. This approach allows for the unusual formation of ortho-substituted anilines and phenols, valuable in pharmaceuticals and advanced materials but typically difficult to produce. Our method achieves high -selectivity without needing transition metals or external/internal templates.
