Vernal keratoconjunctivitis (VKC) is a rare, recurrent and multifactorial ocular disease, which typically flares up during spring and affects especially male children and adolescents. This condition does not usually respond to common treatments with antihistamines or mast cells stabilizers, whereas corticosteroids have effective results. Corticosteroids need to be carefully administered, to avoid adverse effects, mainly the secondary development of glaucoma, cataracts, or infections. Immunosuppressive agents, such as cyclosporin (CyA) or tacrolimus are, therefore, frequently employed in VKC patients. Only the 0.1% CyA (1 mg/mL) concentration has an approved and specific clinical indication for the treatment of VKC and this drug was given the denomination of orphan drug by the European Commission (EU/3/06/360) in 2006. So far, few studies have been conducted to evaluate the efficacy and the side effects of topical 0.1% CyA. Different topical CyA concentrations, ranging from 0.05% to 2%, and various types of formulation are available at the moment. In the future, 0.1% CyA will presumably take an important part in the management of VKC. The present review focuses on eye drops containing 0.1% CyA; however, more studies will be needed to define its long-term efficacy in the natural course of this severe ocular disease.

Melamine tableware can release melamine in daily-use; however, currently there is insufficient evidence to support whether the amount released could pose human exposure risk. We therefore conducted two studies, one is 8-day randomized crossover trial involving 27 volunteers who used melamine and stainless-steel tableware in turn (n = 648) and the other is cross-sectional study including 113 college students and 200 residents (n = 313) to further provide population-based evidence. The crossover study results showed that using melamine tableware could promote urinary concentrations of melamine, cyanuric acid (CYA), and ammelide by 42.

Background: Bleeding from gastric varices is life-threatening, with significant rebleeding risk despite standard cyanoacrylate glue injection therapy. Our aim was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS)-guided coil embolization with cyanoacrylate injection (Coil+CYA) compared with EUS-guided cyanoacrylate injection alone (CYA) for the treatment of gastric varices.
Methods: The study was conducted at a tertiary referral center in India, using a single-blinded, prospective, and parallel-group randomized design.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the efficacy and safety of endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)-guided injection of cyanoacrylate (CYA) and transjugular intrahepatic portal shunts (TIPSs) in the treatment of patients with cirrhosis with ruptured gastric varices.
Methods: In this retrospective study, 105 patients with liver cirrhosis and gastric varicose veins who were admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University between April 2018 and April 2023 without nonselective β-blockers treatment and no portal vein thrombosis were evaluated. The patients were divided into the transjugular intrahepatic portal shunt (TIPS) group (n = 60) and the EUS-CYA group (n = 45) for the purpose of evaluating postoperative rebleeding rates, complications, survival rates, and other factors.

Background And Aims: The study sought to compare the efficacy of endoscopic injection sclerotherapy with cyanoacrylate glue (EIS-CYA) vs EIS-CYA plus a radiologic intervention (RI) (either transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt or balloon-occluded retrograde transvenous obliteration) for secondary prophylaxis in patients with liver cirrhosis who presented with acute variceal bleeding from cardiofundal varices. Primary outcome measure was gastric varix (GV) rebleed rates at 1 year.
Methods: Consecutive cirrhosis patients with acute variceal bleeding from cardiofundal varices were randomized into 2 arms (45 in each) after primary hemostasis by EIS-CYA.

Background And Purpose: Mechanical thrombectomy is a fundamental intervention for acute ischemic stroke treatment. While conventional techniques are effective, cyclic aspiration (CyA) shows potential for better recanalization rates. We aim to investigate factors affecting CyA and compare them with static aspiration (StA).
