The aim of this study was to evaluate the accuracy and precision of portable blood glucose meters, such as i-STAT 1 and Precision Xceed, for use in calves. Whole blood and plasma samples were obtained from eleven calves that received 2.5 or 5.0% dextrose-containing polyelectrolyte isotonic solutions. Measurements using the i-STAT 1 (r=0.99, P<0.0001) and Precision Xceed (r=0.96, P<0.0001) were well correlated with those by the hexokinase method, which is the gold standard. Although the accuracy of i-STAT 1 was equivalent to that of the hexokinase method, there was an autocorrelation in the residuals between the results from the Precision Xceed and the hexokinase method. Thus, the i-STAT 1 can be used to measure the blood glucose concentration in cattle.

Acute kidney injury (AKI), a common complication in hospitalized patients, is a clinical syndrome with a sudden and reversible decline in kidney function. Within hospitalization, the average incidence rate is 2% to 5%, and 67% of patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) acquire acute kidney injury. There is a pressing need to identify biomarkers that provide early detection to enhance the diagnosis of acute kidney injury.

Background: Indirect calorimetry is the gold standard field-testing technique for measuring energy expenditure and exercise intensity based on the volume of oxygen consumed (VO, mL O/min). Although heart rate is often used as a proxy for VO, heart rate-based estimates of VO may be inaccurate after stroke due to changes in the heart rate-VO relationship. Our objective was to evaluate in people post stroke the accuracy of using heart rate to estimate relative walking VO (wVO) and classify exercise intensity.

To enhance the biomarker diagnostics sensitivity and selectivity of human papillomavirus type 16 oncoprotein E7 (HPV16 E7) in serum, a label/enzyme-free electrochemical detection platform was developed. This platform featured a type of "Super-turn-off" nanobiosensor monitored through differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). It integrated the magnetic self-assembly property of the α-FeO/FeO@Au/Sub/BSA signal transport nano-medium with the high specificity of CRISPR/Cas14a and the amplification capability of the bipedal walker (DNA walker composed of two ssDNA strands), resulting in the enhanced specificity and anti-interference performance while remaining stable at 4 °C for over 30 days.

Introduction: The diagnostic accuracy of gastric ultrasound in children has not been assessed thoroughly. We aimed to determine the sensitivity and specificity in children of a qualitative ultrasound examination of the gastric antrum in the supine 45° semi-recumbent position and a clinical algorithm for detecting a gastric fluid volume > 1.25 ml.

The field of healthcare diagnostics is navigating complex challenges driven by evolving patient demographics and the rapid advancement of new technologies worldwide. In response to these challenges, these biosensors offer distinctive advantages over traditional diagnostic methods, such as cost-effectiveness, enhanced specificity, and adaptability, making their integration with point-of-care (POC) platforms more feasible. In recent years, aptasensors have significantly evolved in diagnostic capabilities through the integration of emerging technologies such as microfluidics, Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats (CRISPR) systems, wearable devices, and machine learning (ML), driving progress in precision medicine and global healthcare solutions.
