The Speech in Babble (SiB) test assesses the perception of speech in noise in UK adults. Here, we define the normal range of SiB scores to enable the use of the test in clinic. In each test, 25 monosyllabic words were played in background multi-talker babble. Listeners had to repeat the word they heard. An adaptive procedure was used to determine the signal-to-noise ratio needed to reach 50% correct responses (i.e. the Speech Reception Threshold). Eight distinct equivalent lists were available. Sixty-nine normal-hearing adults (aged 20-57 years) with no reported listening difficulties participated in the study and completed the SiB test twice in both ears. Normative SiB scores varied from -0.8 dB to 3.7 dB suggesting that patients outside these limits should be considered as having abnormal scores. No statistically significant difference between ears and no effect of age or sex was found. There was "fair" test-retest reliability. The SiB test is a short, valid and reliable test that can be used in UK clinics, e.g. as part of a standard APD battery or evaluating the performance of hearing impaired patients.

Myelomeningocele (MMC) is the most severe and disabling form of spina bifida with chronic health multisystem complications and social and economic family and health systems burden. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the genetic risk estimate for MMC in a cohort of 203 Mexican nuclear families with discordant siblings for the defect. Utilizing a custom Illumina array, we analyzed 656 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of 395 candidate genes to identify a polygenic risk profile for MMC.

Glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) biosynthesis defect 11 (GPIBD11), part of the heterogeneous group of congenital disorders of glycosylation, is caused by biallelic pathogenic variants in . This rare disorder has previously been described in only 12 patients. We report four novel patients: two sib fetuses with congenital anomalies affecting several organs, including the heart; a living girl with tetralogy of Fallot, global developmental delay, behavioral abnormalities, and atypic electroencephalography (EEG) without epilepsy; a girl with early-onset, treatment-resistant seizures, developmental regression, and recurrent infections, that ultimately passed away prematurely due to pneumonia.

Introduction: United States Multi-Society Task Force colonoscopy surveillance intervals are based solely on adenoma characteristics, without accounting for other risk factors. We investigated whether a risk model including demographic, environmental, and genetic risk factors could individualize surveillance intervals under an "equal management of equal risks" framework.
Methods: Using 14,069 individuals from the Prostate, Lung, Colorectal, and Ovarian Cancer Screening Trial who had a diagnostic colonoscopy following an abnormal flexible sigmoidoscopy, we modeled the risk of colorectal cancer, considering the diagnostic colonoscopy finding, baseline risk factors (e.
