Endohedral clusters count as molecular models for intermetallic compounds-a class of compounds in which bonding principles are scarcely understood. Herein we report soluble cluster anions with the highest charges on a single cluster to date. The clusters reflect the close analogy between intermetalloid clusters and corresponding coordination polyhedra in intermetallic compounds. We now establish Raman spectroscopy as a reliable probe to assign for the first time the presence of discrete, endohedrally filled clusters in intermetallic phases. The ternary precursor alloys with nominal compositions "K Co Ge " and "K Ru Sn " exhibit characteristic bonding modes originating from metal atoms in the center of polyhedral clusters, thus revealing that filled clusters are present in these alloys. We report also on the structural characterization of [Co@Ge ] (1a) and [Ru@Sn ] (2a) obtained from solutions of the respective alloys.

Background: Diverticular disease (DD) represents a common gastrointestinal condition that poses a heavy burden on healthcare systems worldwide. A high degree of uncertainty surrounds the therapeutic approaches for the control of symptoms in patients with symptomatic uncomplicated diverticular disease (SUDD) and primary and secondary prevention of diverticulitis and its consequences.
Objectives: To review the current knowledge and discuss the unmet needs regarding the management of SUDD and the prevention of acute diverticulitis.

Metal-semiconductor nanocomposites have emerged as a viable strategy for concurrently tailoring both thermal and electronic transport properties of established thermoelectric materials, ultimately achieving synergistic performance. In this investigation, a series of nanocomposite thin films were synthesized, embedding metallic cobalt telluride (CoTe) nanophase within the nanocrystalline ternary skutterudite (Co(GeSb)Te or CGST) matrix. Our approach harnessed composition fluctuation-induced phase separation and in situ growth during thermal annealing to seamlessly integrate the metallic phase.

The breadth of therapeutic options for the management of dermatologic skin conditions continues to expand rapidly as exemplified by biologics and small molecule drug development. While dermatologists and health care providers are aware of the underlying mechanisms and indications for these therapeutics, there is a recognized practice gap due to an incomplete understanding of the safety of these medications in women of childbearing age during the prepartum, antepartum, and postpartum phases. Although a two-part continuing medical education review was published regarding the prescribing practices and safety profiles of these new therapeutics in women of childbearing age while pregnant or lactating in 2014, many new medications have been approved since then.

Background: In vertebrae, the amount of cortical bone has been estimated at 30-60%, but 45-75% of axial load on a vertebral body is borne by cortical bone (1).
Rationale And Objectives: The purpose of this study is to investigate the accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value and negative predictive value of vertebral body cortical thickness in predicting osteoporosis (OP) by analyzing the relationship between vertebral body cortical thickness and bone mineral density (BMD) in different age and gender groups. The optimal diagnostic cut-off value of vertebral body cortical thickness in predicting OP was analyzed.
