Artificial muscles may accelerate the development of robotics, haptics, and prosthetics. Although advances in polymer-based actuators have delivered unprecedented strengths, producing these devices at scale with tunable dimensions remains a challenge. We applied a high-throughput iterative fiber-drawing technique to create strain-programmable artificial muscles with dimensions spanning three orders of magnitude. These fiber-based actuators are thermally and optically controllable, can lift more than 650 times their own weight, and withstand strains of >1000%. Integration of conductive nanowire meshes within these fiber-based muscles offers piezoresistive strain feedback and demonstrates long-term resilience across >10 deformation cycles. The scalable dimensions of these fiber-based actuators and their strength and responsiveness may extend their impact from engineering fields to biomedical applications.

This study presents an advanced dynamic finite element (FE) model of multiple components of the breast to examine the biomechanical impact of different types of physical activities and activity intensity on the breast tissues. Using 4D scanning and motion capture technologies, dynamic data are collected during different activities. The accuracy of the FE model is verified based on relative mean absolute error (RMAE), and optimal material parameters are identified by using a validated stepwise grid search method.

The maintenance of an appropriate ratio of body fat to muscle mass is essential for the preservation of health and performance, as excessive body fat is associated with an increased risk of various diseases. Accurate body composition assessment requires precise segmentation of structures. In this study we developed a novel automatic machine learning approach for volumetric segmentation and quantitative assessment of MRI volumes and investigated the efficacy of using a machine learning algorithm to assess muscle, subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT), and bone volume of the thigh before and after a strength training.

Acinetobacter johnsonii is a denitrifying bacterium commonly used as an environmental probiotic in wastewater treatment. However, research on its potential pathogenicity to animals is limited. During an epidemiological survey conducted from 2022 to 2024 at bullfrog farms in Guangdong Province, China, multiple strains were isolated from diseased bullfrogs during the low-temperature season.

Objective: This study focuses on how patients experience the time following amputation after primary limb salvage surgery due to musculoskeletal malignancies. Limb salvage is state of the art in the treatment of musculoskeletal tumours. Nonetheless, in some cases, limb salvage can become problematic over time, resulting in poorer limb function and septic outcomes.

Introduction: The purpose of this study was to clarify the impact of an intervention combining exercise, lifestyle guidance, and community-building activities on the walking function of community-dwelling elderly individuals.
Methods: A total of 391 elderly participants (362 females, 29 males), aged 65 and above, were involved in a one-year intervention consisting of physical activities in a health exercise club, community-building activities, and dementia cafes. The walking function was assessed using an artificial intelligence (AI)-based gait analysis tool and health status was evaluated using a questionnaire.
