For the development of a redox-active supramolecular capsule with host function, we synthesized a bent heterocyclic amphiphile using phenothiazine panels capable of adopting three different states, i.e., neutral, radical, and oxygenated states. In water, the new amphiphiles spontaneously and quantitatively assemble into a heterocycle-based capsule with an average diameter of ∼2 nm, through the hydrophobic effect and π-stacking interactions. The product structure was confirmed by the combination of NMR, UV-visible, DLS, AFM, and molecular modeling studies. Electrochemical and chemical oxidation of the capsule generates relatively stable radical cation capsules at room temperature in a reversible fashion. The neutral capsule efficiently takes up large hydrophobic compounds (e.g., pigment blue 15 and fullerene C) into the heterocyclic cavity through a grinding protocol and subsequent chemical oxidation of the products generates radical host-guest complexes. Moreover, chemical oxygenation of the host-guest complexes was shown to induce guest release in water via disassembly of the capsular structure through dioxygenation of the phenothiazine panels.

Ensuring children adhere to their prescribed medication can be challenging, particularly when a large number of medicines on the market consist of unpalatable drugs and difficult to swallow dosage forms. Sugar-based oromucosal films are easy to administer dosage forms across all age groups within the paediatric population, as they eliminate the need for swallowing or water intake and can contribute to enhancing palatability and medicine adherence. In the current study, electrospun and 3D printed oromucosal films of chlorpromazine hydrochloride (CHZ), a bitter drug, were developed based on pullulan, a natural polysaccharide, and an array of sweeteners.

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a therapeutic option for cancer, in which photosensitizer (PS) drugs, light, and molecular oxygen generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) and induce cell death. First- and second-generation PSs presented with problems that hindered their efficacy, including low solubility. Thus, second-generation PSs loaded into nanocarriers were produced to enhance their cellular uptake and therapeutic efficacy.

Distinct platelet activation patterns are elicited by the tyrosine kinase-linked collagen receptor glycoprotein VI (GPVI) and the G-protein coupled protease-activated receptors (PAR1/4) for thrombin. This is reflected in the different platelet Ca responses induced by the GPVI agonist collagen-related peptide (CRP) and the PAR1/4 agonist thrombin. Using a 96 well-plate assay with human Calcium-6-loaded platelets and a panel of 22 pharmacological inhibitors, we assessed the cytosolic Ca signaling domains of these receptors and developed an automated Ca curve algorithm.

This study used data from consumer testing, descriptive analysis (DA), and preference mapping to determine the sensory characteristics of pear cultivars from two harvest seasons in the Pacific Northwest (PNW). A trained sensory panel (n = 10) used generic DA to evaluate multiple sensory modalities of 22 pear cultivars. Six pears from summer and six from winter season were evaluated by consumers (n = 219) to assess their liking of different attributes.

Powdered micro- or nano-particles photocatalyst has separation and recovery challenges, which may create a second pollution to environment and harmful to animals. To address those issues, SnO, CuO and CuO-SnO p-n heterojunction thin films are formed on glass substrates using efficient co-sputtering method that is commonly employed for large-area high-definition display panel. Using first-order kinetics, 100 °C ultraviolet (UV) annealed CuO-SnO p-n heterojunction shows the superb fast degradation rate constant of 0.
