Eight undescribed 9,19-cycloartane type triterpenoid glycosides (cimdalglnoside A-H) and ten known analogues were obtained from the phytochemical research on the roots of Actaea dahurica (syn. Cimicifuga dahurica). All compounds were characterised by spectroscopic experiments, and chemical method. All the compounds isolated were assayed for cytotoxicity to five human cancer cell lines. Cimdalglnoside G showed promising cytotoxicities against Hela, and MCF-7 cell lines with IC values at 7.7 and 12.2 μM.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how different species and sources of Botanical Reference Materials (BRMs), focusing on Actaea roots, show variability in their chemical composition due to factors like harvest location and year, using advanced chemometric methods.
  • Through techniques such as flow injection mass spectrometry and PCA, significant differences in composition were identified among various Actaea species and commercial supplements, affected by factors like technical repeats and data processing methods.
  • The results highlight that environmental and genetic factors, alongside chemometric methodologies, play a crucial role in distinguishing between botanical species, impacting the reliability of reference materials.
