The thermolysis of an optically active tetradeuterated 2-methoxymethyl methylenecyclopropane produces a specific ratio of eight possible rearrangement stereoisomers. Despite numerous efforts, this reaction and other similar transformations have defied mechanistic interpretation until now. The direct application of the bent bond/antiperiplanar hypothesis (BBAH) to this reaction produces a mechanistic model that rationalizes all the observed reaction kinetics and products. The BBAH dictates that allyl diradical intermediates, produced during methylenecyclopropane thermolysis, retain pyramidal character due to antiperiplanar delocalization into their respective bent bond.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) combined with periorbital triamcinolone acetonide injection in treating thyroid eye disease (TED) patients with active extraocular muscle but low CAS. The retrospective observational study was conducted. A total of 156 eligible patients were selected from the TED patient database of the Ophthalmology Department of West China Hospital of Sichuan University.

Background/objectives: Anterior segment optical Coherence Tomography (AS-OCT) is used extensively in imaging the cornea in health and disease. Our objective was to analyse and monitor corneal vascularisation (CVas) through the corresponding back-shadows visible on AS-OCT.
Subjects/methods: AS-OCT scans were obtained from 26 consecutive patients (eyes) with CVas of different aetiologies.

Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) has dramatically advanced non-invasive human brain mapping and decoding. Functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) and high-density diffuse optical tomography (HD-DOT) non-invasively measure blood oxygen fluctuations related to brain activity, like fMRI, at the brain surface, using more-lightweight equipment that circumvents ergonomic and logistical limitations of fMRI. HD-DOT grids have smaller inter-optode spacing (~ 13 mm) than sparse fNIRS (~ 30 mm) and therefore provide higher image quality, with spatial resolution ~ 1/2 that of fMRI, when using the several source-detector distances (13-40 mm) afforded by the HD-DOT grid.

The aberrant vascular response associated with tendon injury results in circulating immune cell infiltration and a chronic inflammatory feedback loop leading to poor healing outcomes. Studying this dysregulated tendon repair response in human pathophysiology has been historically challenging due to the reliance on animal models. To address this, our group developed the human tendon-on-a-chip (hToC) to model cellular interactions in the injured tendon microenvironment; however, this model lacked the key element of physiological flow in the vascular compartment.

DEAD-box RNA-dependent ATPases are ubiquitous in all domains of life where they bind and remodel RNA and RNA-protein complexes. DEAD-box ATPases with helicase activity unwind RNA duplexes by local opening of helical regions without directional movement through the duplexes and some of these enzymes, including Ded1p from Saccharomyces cerevisiae, oligomerize to effectively unwind RNA duplexes. Whether and how DEAD-box helicases coordinate oligomerization and unwinding is not known and it is unclear how many base pairs are actively opened.
