Short- and medium-chain chlorinated paraffins (SCCPs and MCCPs) in commercial rubber track products and raw materials (rubber granules and adhesives) were investigated by two-dimensional gas chromatography with electron-capture negative-ionization mass spectrometry (GC × GC-ECNI-MS). The mean SCCP and MCCP concentrations in the rubber track products were 3.64 × 10 and 4.14 × 10 μg/g, respectively. The mean SCCP concentration in the products was significantly higher than those in the rubber granules (2.78 μg/g), but in the same order of magnitude as those in the adhesives (3.34 × 10 μg/g). The SCCP concentrations in almost half of the rubber track products and four fifths of the adhesives exceeded the limit (1.5 g/kg) set in Chinese standard GB 36246-2018. The dominant SCCP and MCCP congeners in the rubber track products were similar to those in the relevant adhesives but different from those in the paired granules. Principal component analysis and contribution calculations indicated that chlorinated paraffins (CPs) in adhesives could be the main sources of CPs in rubber track products. The high CP concentrations found in rubber track products are of special concern because of the relatively high exposures for children and negative effect on human health and environment.

Conventional approaches for the structural health monitoring of infrastructures often rely on physical sensors or targets attached to structural members, which require considerable preparation, maintenance, and operational effort, including continuous on-site adjustments. This paper presents an image-driven hybrid structural analysis technique that combines digital image processing (DIP) and regression analysis with a continuum point cloud method (CPCM) built on a particle-based strong formulation. Polynomial regressions capture the boundary shape change due to the structural loading and precisely identify the edge and corner coordinates of the deformed structure.

This paper presents an experimental study on the elastic support in a discrete rail fastening system used in a ballastless tram track structure. The study focuses on the elastic support of the anchor element, specifically the Pm49 baseplate. These elements significantly influence environmental pollution along tram routes, such as vibration (at low frequencies) or noise (at high frequencies), as well as static and dynamic rail deflections.

Polymers with micro- and mesoporous structure are promising as materials for gas storage and separation, encapsulating agents for controlled drug release, carriers for catalysts and sensors, precursors of nanostructured carbon materials, carriers for biomolecular immobilization and cellular scaffolds, as materials with a low dielectric constant, filtering/separating membranes, proton exchange membranes, templates for replicating structures, and as electrode materials for energy storage. Sol-gel technologies, track etching, and template synthesis are used for their production, including in micelles of surfactants and microemulsions and sublimation drying. The listed methods make it possible to obtain pores with variable shapes and sizes of 5-50 nm and achieve a narrow pore size distribution.

In this study, a multi-slotted antenna is designed and characterized that can be used for wearable applications by utilizing a flexible, durable silicone rubber substrate. Flexible material has become increasingly popular among researchers in recent years for the development of wearable antennas for body area networks (BAN). The flexible device should be small in size so that it can be easily worn on the human body by integrating with wearables for transmitting and receiving signals over a sufficiently long distance.

Tire and road wear particles are a major source of microplastics to urban stormwater. They are composed of hetero-aggregates of abraded tire and pavement particles that are difficult to distinguish. While tire wear is a known source of microplastics, little is known on the contribution of pavement wear.
