Organocatalytic coupling of glycosyl azides with enolates of active ketones and esters through azide-enolate [3 + 2] cycloaddition in the presence of 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene (DBU) furnished 1,4,5-trisubstituted-glycosyl-1,2,3-triazole derivatives in excellent yield. The reaction condition is simple and can be scaled-up. The fungal genus Fusarium is a treasure-trove of structurally diverse secondary metabolites, contributed greatly by marine-derived strains. A new cedrane sesquiterpene, fusacedrol (1), and a new fusarin member, fusarin M (2), were isolated from F. graminearum 12Ⅱ2N that was isolated as an endophyte from the marine brown alga Sargassum sp.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recently increased payment for evaluation and management (E/M) visits, but did not apply these updates to post-operative global period visits. We investigated the resulting Medicare fee-for-service revenue loss for otolaryngologists. Using publicly available Medicare spending/utilization data, we estimated how much additional payment otolaryngologists would have received in 2023 if CMS had reimbursed global period visits at the same rates as other E/M visits.

Three new pyridine derivatives, irpelactedines A-C (1-3), and a new furan derivative, irpelactedine D (5), along with two structurally related known compounds, irpexidine A (4) and 5-carboxy-2-furanpropanoic acid (6), were isolated from the medicinal fungus Irpex lacteus SY1002. Their structures were elucidated through NMR and mass spectral analyses, combined with density functional theory calculations of ECD data. Evaluation of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitory activity revealed that compounds 1 and 3 displayed moderate inhibition, with IC50 values of 31.

Chronic inflammation in the tumour microenvironment (TME) via Th2-polarisation promotes melanoma progression and metastasis, making it a target for immunotherapy. Interleukin (IL)-4 is considered essential for Th2-polarisation in the TME; however, its source remains unknown. Basophils have been postulated as one of its sources.

Changes in the microstructure of the aortic wall precede the progression of various aortic pathologies, including aneurysms and dissection. Current clinical decisions with regards to surgical planning and/or radiological intervention are guided by geometric features, such as aortic diameter, since clinical imaging lacks tissue microstructural information. The aim of this proof-of-concept work is to investigate a non-invasive imaging method, diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), in ex vivo aortic tissue to gain insights into the microstructure.
