Background/objectives: The objective of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of the lactate dehydrogenase-to-albumin ratio (LAR) in adult-onset Still's disease (AOSD) and compare it with other inflammatory indices, using patients with fever of unknown origin (FUO) as a control group due to their overlapping clinical features with AOSD. The study also compared LAR's diagnostic performance with other inflammatory indices like the serum immune-inflammatory index (SII), ferritin/erythrocyte sedimentation rate (FER), CRP/albumin ratio (CAR), platelet/lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR), as well as its combinations with FER, PLR, and ferritin (LAR + FER, LAR + PLR, LAR + ferritin).

Methods: A retrospective evaluation was conducted on 70 patients with fever of unknown cause and 78 patients with AOSD, admitted between January 2000 and December 2023 in a tertiary care hospital.

Current literature regarding cancer risk in rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases (RMDs) is particularly poor and controversial, even though the incidence of malignancy in some patients with RMDs is considered to be increased compared with the general population. Malignancy may be a major comorbidity in subjects with spondyloarthritis (SpA) as the result of multifactorial mechanisms, from disease pathogenesis to the iatrogenic effect of immunomodulating drugs. Several recommendations for screening and management of cancer risk have been developed in recent years with the aim of improving the different outcomes in these patients.

The safety of tumor necrosis factor (TNF) inhibitors has been demonstrated for over two decades. However, their effects on cardiovascular function in patients with rheumatic diseases remain controversial, and conclusions are additionally hampered by the cardiovascular complications inherent in such diseases. We present two 15-year-old patients diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis and juvenile idiopathic arthritis classified as polyarthritis with positive rheumatoid factor, respectively.

Background: At present, the association of smoking, alcohol intake, and coffee intake with the risk of bacterial pneumonia (BP) remains controversial. In this study, we used a 2-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to estimate the association of smoking, alcohol intake, and coffee intake with the risk of BP.

Methods: We extracted genetic variants associated with smoking initiation and cigarettes per day from the Genome-Wide Association Study and Sequencing Consortium of Alcohol and Nicotine Use database (944,625 individuals).
