Nickel Phosphinidene Molecular Clusters from Organocyclophosphine Precursors.

We report a new family of nickel phosphinidene molecular clusters synthesized from the reaction of bis(1,5-cyclooctadiene)nickel(0) ([Ni(cod) ]) with organocyclophosphine and trialkylphosphine. We found that [Ni(cod) ] cleaves the organocyclophosphine P-P bonds to generate phosphinidene groups, establishing the cyclic molecules as valuable precursors for making charge-neutral molecular clusters passivated by two-electron donor capping ligands. The formation of the cluster core structure is controlled by the bulkiness of the precursor and of the capping ligand. As a demonstration of this new cluster-forming reaction, we describe three clusters with different core nuclearity and degree of ligation: Ni (PMe) (PEt ) , Ni (PMe) (PMe ) , and Ni (PiPr) (PMe ) . In addition, we show that the larger cluster, Ni (PMe) (PEt ) , can be used as a low temperature single-source molecular precursor to the catalytically active nickel phosphide phase Ni P.

Viedma deracemization mechanisms in self-assembly processes.

Simulations on an ODE-based model shows that there are many common points between Viedma deracemization and chiral self-assemblies of achiral building blocks towards chiral nanoparticles. Both systems occur in a closed system with energy exchange but no matter exchange with the surroundings and show parallel reversible growth mechanisms which coexist with an irreversible cluster breaking (grinding). The various mechanisms of growth give rise to the formation of polymerization/depolymerization cycles while the consecutive transformation of achiral monomer into chiral cluster results into an indirect enantioselective autocatalysis.

Nonconventional luminogens have great potential for applications in fields like anti-counterfeiting encryption. But so far, the photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of most of these powders is still relatively low and the persistent room temperature phosphorescence (p-RTP) emission is relatively weak. To improve their PLQY and p-RTP, pressing the powder into tablets has been preliminarily proven to be an effective method, but the specific mechanism has not been fully elucidated yet.

The initial decomposition reactions of 1,3,5-trinitrobenzene (TNB), picric acid (PA), 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT), 2,4,6-trinitroaniline (TNA) and 2,4,6-trinitrophenylmethylnitramine (Tetryl) were studied using ReaxFF-lg molecular dynamics simulations, and the substituent effect on the thermal decomposition behaviours of nitrobenzene compounds was evaluated through the reactant number, initial decomposition pathway, products and cluster analysis. The results show that the introduction of substituents could promote the decomposition of the reactants, increase the frequency of the nitro-nitrito isomerization reaction and intermolecular H or O atom transfer reaction, and reduce the frequency of the direct nitro dissociation reaction. Notably, these effects were most obvious in the case of TNT.
