A patient having mitral stenosis with chronic atrial fibrillation, large left atrium, and spontaneous echo contrast is expected to have clot in LA or LAA. TEE is more sensitive to detect thrombus in LA and LAA than transthoracic echocardiography. However, false-negative results can still occur due to multilobed LAA, and a thrombus can be potentially missed.

Schizophrenia is a chronic psychiatric disorder marked by severe disturbances in thought, perception, and behavior. Long-acting injectable (LAI) antipsychotics, such as paliperidone, are widely used to promote sustained remission and ensure medication adherence, especially in patients prone to relapse. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has introduced unique challenges, with studies indicating that infections like COVID-19 may exacerbate psychiatric symptoms through neuroinflammatory pathways.

Susac's syndrome is a rare inflammatory microangiopathy characterized by the triad of retinopathy, encephalopathy, and hearing loss. The syndrome causes recurrent microinfarcts in these organs, which in turn manifests with repeated attacks of visual field loss, hearing loss and tinnitus, and various brain syndromes. These often lead to the significant accumulation of disability over time, particularly if there is a delay or failure in diagnosis.

Background/aim: Autosomal-recessive carnitine-acylcarnitine translocase deficiency (CACTD) is a rare disorder of long-chain fatty acid oxidation caused by variants in the SLC25A20 gene. Under fasting conditions, most newborns with severe CACTD experience sudden cardiac arrest and hypotonia, often leading to premature death due to rapid disease progression. Understanding of genetic factors and pathogenic mechanisms in CACTD is essential for its diagnosis, treatment, and prevention.

Background: Local anesthetic systemic toxicity (LAST) is a rare but potentially life-threatening complication. Under general anesthesia, neurological signs are often masked, delaying diagnosis and increasing the risk of sudden cardiovascular collapse. Therefore, early detection methods are critically needed.

Background And Objectives: A death scene investigation is required to determine sudden infant death syndrome, and a doll reenactment optimizes the information obtained. The aim of this study was to explore how acutely bereaved parents experience doll reenactments that are conducted after the sudden and unexpected deaths of their infants.
Methods: A mixed-methods design, including surveys and semi-structured interviews, was used in a cross-sectional, national study to explore the experiences of doll reenactment among 45 bereaved parents.
