Published: June 2019

Introduction: The microscopic examination of microhematocrit tubes (mHCT) has been proposed as the gold standard for acute and congenital Chagas disease diagnosis. We compared different mHCT methodologies detecting T. cruzi parasites in the blood.

Methods: The rotating method, water mount, and immersion oil methods were compared for their suitability, sensitivity, and specificity.

Results: The rotating method was easier, faster, and more sensitive than the others with 100% specificity.

Conclusions: The rotating method is feasible for laboratory technicians with standard training in microscopic techniques and is recommended for the diagnosis of acute Chagas disease in primary health care facilities.

Introduction: Exercise-based physiotherapy is an established treatment of rotator cuff injury. Objective assessment of at-home exercise is critical to understand its relationship with clinical outcomes. This study uses the Smart Physiotherapy Activity Recognition System to measure at-home physiotherapy participation in patients with rotator cuff injury based on inertial sensor data captured from smart watches.

Determination of the rotational isomerization rate along carbon-carbon single bonds in solution.

Department of Chemistry and Chemistry Institute for Functional Materials, Pusan National University, Busan 46241, Korea.

The temperature- and viscosity-dependent rotational isomerization time constant () along the C-C˙ bond of CFBrCF radical in solution was measured using femtosecond infrared spectroscopy after photodissociating the I atom from CFBrCFI. Three density functional theory (DFT) functionals, ωB97XD, APFD, and B3LYP were used with the aug-cc-pVTZ basis set to calculate the required parameters in calculating using Kramers' theory of reaction rates. The measured was consistent with the value calculated using the vibrational frequencies and rotational barriers of the related compounds calculated by DFT method with ωB97XD/aug-cc-pVTZ.

Aim: Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a growing social health issue. Primary healthcare institutions are where children most commonly seek help, and family physicians in primary care play a crucial role in early ASD detection. This study aims to assess the knowledge level, behaviours, and attitudes of family physicians and family medicine residents across Turkey, identify factors affecting their knowledge, and raise awareness among physicians.

Background: Basocellular carcinoma (BCC) is the most prevalent skin malignancy, often localizing to the UV-exposed skin of the face. While most BCC is relatively indolent, aggressive subtypes, including infiltrative BCC, pose the treatment challenges of ensuring functional and aesthetic preservation with a high risk of recurrence.

Case: A 78-year-old female patient complained of recurrent left chin BCC of infiltrative subtype, which was first treated in 2013 by wide local excision and adjuvant radiotherapy.

Background: The majority of data on left bundle branch area pacing (LBBAP) are on a lumenless lead. Data on the safety and effectiveness of stylet driven leads are comparatively lacking.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 265 patients who underwent attempted LBBAP with an 7842 (Boston Scientific, Marlborough, MA) lead in the Duke University Health System between 1/1/2020 and 9/1/2023.
