Genetically Encoded Calcium Indicators: A New Tool in Renal Hypertension Research.

Hypertension is ranked as the third cause of disability-adjusted life-years. The percentage of the population suffering from hypertension will continue to increase over the next years. Renovascular disease is one of the most common causes of secondary hypertension. Vascular changes seen in hypertension are partially based on dysfunctional calcium signaling. This signaling can be studied using calcium indicators (loading dyes and genetically encoded calcium indicators; ). Most progress in development has been seen in GECIs, which are used in an increasing number of publications concerning calcium signaling in vasculature and the kidney. The use of transgenic mouse models expressing GECIs will facilitate new possibilities to study dysfunctional calcium signaling in a cell type-specific manner, thus helping to identify more specific targets for treatment of (renal) hypertension.

This study used coal combustion products (CCP) with different calcium contents to replace partial aluminate cement (AC) in equal amounts, and studied the effect of calcium contents on the setting time and early compressive strength of AC. The setting time and early compressive strength were further regulated by adding retarder. The results showed that the higher the calcium content of CCP (CCP2 contains higher calcium content), the shorter the setting time and the higher the 2 h compressive strength after replacing part of cement.

Objective: The aim of this study is to develop and validate a prediction model for fall risk factors in hospitalized older adults with osteoporosis.

Methods: A total of 615 older adults with osteoporosis hospitalized at a tertiary (grade 3A) hospital in Nantong City, Jiangsu Province, China, between September 2022 and August 2023 were selected for the study using convenience sampling. Fall risk factors were identified using univariate and logistic regression analyses, and a predictive risk model was constructed and visualized through a nomogram.
