The impact of the use of antithymocyte globulin (ATG) following a total body irradiation (TBI)-based myeloablative conditioning regimen has been poorly explored. We retrospectively analyzed 724 patients who underwent a first allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (allo-HCT) following a TBI-based conditioning regimen for acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and compared the outcomes of 251 (35%) patients who received ATG (ATG group) with 473 (65%) patients who did not (non-ATG group). Median follow-up of surviving patients was 59 months (interquartile range, 28-83). The cumulative incidence of grade II-IV acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) for non-ATG and ATG groups in the first 100 days was 33% vs 24%, respectively ( = .0098). The 2-year cumulative incidence of chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGVHD) was reduced significantly in the ATG group in comparison with the non-ATG group (46% vs 34%, = .003). Using multivariate analysis, in vivo T-cell depletion (ATG group) was independently associated with a decreased incidence of grade II-IV aGVHD (hazard ratio [HR], 0.28; < .001), grade III-IV aGVHD (HR, 0.21; < .001), cGVHD (HR, 0.63; = .02), and nonrelapse mortality (NRM) (HR, 0.54; = .02). Relapse risk, overall survival, and leukemia-free survival were similar between the 2 groups. Our results suggest that the addition of ATG to TBI-based myeloablative conditioning for allo-HCT in AML patients results in a significant reduction in aGVHD and cGVHD, translating into a significant reduction in NRM without increasing the relapse rate.

Background: We hypothesised that the implementation of an electronic medical record (EMR) embedded perioperative clinical decision support (CDS) application, Anesthesia Testing Guidelines (ATG), would result in at least a 10% reduction of unnecessary perioperative testing in patients undergoing elective surgeries.

Methods: The development and implementation of ATG occurred in several phases: 1) team development, 2) development of an embedded EMR application, 3) creation of ATG training and education toolkit, and 4) implementation involving promoting ATG through training and education, addressing challenges, and monitoring compliance. The proportions of patients with any overutilisation across 19 perioperative tests were compared between the baseline cohort and the ATG implementation cohort.

Immunosuppressive therapy (IST) using horse antithymocyte globulin (h-ATG) combined with cyclosporine (CsA) and eltrombopag is the standard care for aplastic anemia (AA) in patients without a suitable matched donor. However, in many countries, h-ATG use has been discontinued, leaving rabbit ATG (r-ATG), which has a lower response rates and poorer survival, as the only alternative. In previous studies, alemtuzumab (ALZ), a humanized monoclonal antibody targeting CD52, combined with CsA resulted in an adequate ORR in AA patients.

Introduction: Post-acute COVID-19 patients who were discharged from hospitals during the epidemic faced significant challenges, not only physical sequelae, but also psychological distress, anxiety, and depression. It is already known that continued exercise improves psychosocial components, but few studies have explored the impact of multimodal rehabilitation programs, including therapeutic education, in this type of patient. There are no studies that explore the application of these programs through asynchronous telerehabilitation, which would open up new therapeutic windows.

Introduction: The immune-mediated destruction of insulin-producing β-cells characterizes type 1 diabetes. Nevertheless, exocrine pancreatic enzymes, including amylase, lipase, and trypsin, are also significantly reduced in type 1 diabetes. With an immunotherapy now approved to treat early-stage type 1 diabetes, biomarkers to delineate response to treatment are needed.

Introduction: Psilocybin, a classical psychedelic, has been rescheduled for use in psilocybin-assisted psychotherapy for treatment-resistant depression in Australia. While evidence for its use is promising, understanding the associated risks is crucial. Accordingly, this review aims to collate adverse event data from psilocybin-assisted psychotherapy clinical trials and evaluate its definition, way of measurement and reporting.
