Objective: This study was conducted to explore the relationship between 1,25-dihydroxy vitamin D (1,25(OH)D) and Vitamin-D binding protein (DBP) in patients with periodontitis and healthy controls.
Methods: Seventy-five periodontitis cases were recruited from the dental OPD of Dow University of Health Sciences, Karachi. Diagnostic criteria of periodontitis were followed according to the probe pocket depth and clinical attachment loss. Seventy-five periodontal healthy controls were selected from the faculty and students of same university. Serum levels of 1,25(OH)D and DBP were determined by ELISA.
Results: Significantly low levels of 1,25(OH)D and high levels of serum DBP were observed in periodontitis patients compared to healthy controls (<0.05), with levels of DBP increasing significantly with the severity of periodontitis (=0.005). Concentrations of DBP correlated positively with 1,25(OH)D, especially in cases with periodontitis (r =0.780; p<0.001).
Conclusion: Within the limits of the study, we conclude that low 1,25(OH)D levels and high DBP levels are associated with periodontitis.

Proteins and polyphenols exhibit distinct biological activities and functional properties. A comprehensive investigation into the formation mechanisms, structures, and functional properties of protein-polyphenol complexes will deepen our understanding of their interactions and establish a theoretical foundation and technical support for development of novel functional foods and pharmaceutical products. The almond protein-phloretin (AP-PHL) covalent complex was synthesized through the covalent binding of hydroxyl radicals to phloretin (PHL), utilizing almond protein (AP) as the raw material.

The effectiveness of established biomarkers for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) within the updated framework of steatotic liver disease (SLD) remains uncertain. This cohort study examines the association of four metabolic biomarkers-retinol-binding protein 4 (RBP-4), fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF-21), adiponectin, and osteocalcin-with SLD and its subtypes: metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and metabolic dysfunction with alcohol-related liver disease (MetALD)/alcohol-related liver disease (ALD). Among 3,504 Chinese participants aged 55-70, 938 (26.

Polo-like kinase 1 (Plk1) is an important cell cycle regulator that is a recognized target for development of anti-cancer therapeutics. Plk1 is composed of a catalytic kinase domain (KD), a flexible interdomain linker and a polo-box domain (PBD). Intramolecular protein-protein interactions (PPIs) between the PBD and KD result in "auto-inhibition" that is an essential component of proper Plk1 function.

Heterogeneous ribonucleoprotein K (hnRNPK) is a well-known RNA-binding protein initially identified for its role in inhibiting the growth of various human tumors. Members of the hnRNP family have also been implicated in both interferon production and RNA virus replication. However, the role of chicken hnRNPK (chhnRNPK) in the replication of Infectious Bursal Disease Virus (IBDV) remains unclear.
