The efficiency of long-term intermittent use of trinitrolong (TNL) and continuous oral use of sustac (ST) was compared in 44 patients with angina of effort, showing particularly good response to long-acting nitrates, as evidenced by paired bicycle ergometric tests. The efficacy of nitroderm (ND) adhesive tape applied on the skin was also assessed in 10 patients. TNL had better antianginal effect, and allowed a higher stress tolerance level, as compared to ST. ND was inferior to TNL and ST in terms of efficiency, apparently due to rapidly developing tolerance to its antianginal effect.
