High sugar intake, particularly fructose, is implicated in obesity and metabolic complications. On the other hand, fructose from fruits and vegetables has undisputed benefits for metabolic health. This raises a paradoxical question-how the same fructose molecule can be associated with detrimental health effects in some studies and beneficial in others.

Redosing with Intralymphatic GAD-Alum in the Treatment of Type 1 Diabetes: The DIAGNODE-B Pilot Trial.

Int J Mol Sci

January 2025

Division of Pediatrics, Department of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Linköping University, 581 83 Linköping, Sweden.

Immunotherapies aimed at preserving residual beta cell function in type 1 diabetes have been successful, although the effect has been limited, or raised safety concerns. Transient effects often observed may necessitate redosing to prolong the effect, although this is not always feasible or safe. Treatment with intralymphatic GAD-alum has been shown to be tolerable and safe in persons with type 1 diabetes and has shown significant efficacy to preserve C-peptide with associated clinical benefit in individuals with the human leukocyte antigen DR3DQ2 haplotype.

Background: Transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) surgery has become increasingly popular in the surgical treatment of lumbar degenerative diseases. The optimal structure for stable double-segment fixation remains unclear.

Objective: To compare the biomechanical changes of unilateral fixation versus bilateral fixation in patients with lumbar degeneration undergoing double-segment TLIF surgery, and to explore the stability and feasibility of unilateral double-segment fixation.

We aimed to explore the possibility of realizing a beam shaping assembly (BSA) driven by a 15-kW beam of 33-MeV electrons of an electron linear accelerator (LINAC) when a boronophenylalanine is adopted as a boron carrier. Simulation calculations were performed to design two types of BSAs driven by the small LINAC. The one was an experimental BSA, and the other was a high-performance BSA.

Mercury pollution control and Marphysa sanguinea bio-response in active-capped sediment with calcium alginate/activated carbon composite.

J Hazard Mater

January 2025

Graduate Institute of Environmental Engineering, National Taiwan University, Taipei 106319, Taiwan; Advanced Research Center for Green Materials Science and Technology, National Taiwan University, Taipei 106319, Taiwan. Electronic address:

Anthropogenic and industrial activities have released large amounts of mercury (Hg) into the hydrosphere. Hg ultimately deposits in sediments and could be re-released into the water environment, threatening the ecological system. Active capping is considered a suitable remediation method due to its relatively low cost and in-situ decontamination feasibility.
