The successful integration of capacitive phase shifters featuring a p-type strained SiGe layer in a 300 mm silicon photonics platform is presented. The phase shift is evaluated with a voltage swing of only 0.9 V, compatible with CMOS technology. A good correlation is shown between the phase shift efficiency from 10 to 60°/mm and the capacitive oxide thickness varying from 15 to 4 nm. Corresponding insertion losses are as low as 3 dB/mm thanks to the development of low loss poly-silicon and to a careful design of the doped layers within the waveguide. The thin SiGe layer brings an additional 20% gain in efficiency due to higher hole efficiency in strained SiGe.

This study explores the hydrogen generation potential via water-splitting reactions under UV-vis radiation by using a synergistic assembly of ZnO nanoparticles integrated with MoS, single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs), and crystalline silicon nanowires (SiNWs) to create the MoS-SiNWs-SWNTs@ZnONPs nanocomposites. A comparative analysis of MoS synthesized through chemical and physical exfoliation methods revealed that the chemically exfoliated MoS exhibited superior performance, thereby being selected for all subsequent measurements. The nanostructured materials demonstrated exceptional surface characteristics, with specific surface areas exceeding 300 m g.

Porous silicon is one of the most explored nanostructured materials in various biomedical applications owing to its remarkable properties. However, its inherent chemical instability mandates a robust surface modification procedure, and proper surface bioengineering is essential to ensure its effectiveness in the biomedical field. In this study, we introduce a one-pot functionalization strategy that simultaneously stabilizes porous silicon nanoparticles and decorates their surface with carbohydrates through hydrosilylation chemistry, combining mild temperatures and a Lewis acid catalyst.

Capping layers (CPLs) are commonly employed in top-emitting organic light-emitting diodes (TEOLEDs) due to their ability to optimize color purity, enhance external light out-coupling efficiency, and improve device stability. However, the mismatch in refractive index between CPLs and thin film encapsulation (TFE) often induces light trapping. This study introduces a novel approach by combining a low refractive index material, lithium fluoride (LiF), with the traditional TFE material, silicon nitride (SiN), to form a combined CPL (LiF/SiN), resulting in improved light outcoupling and light reflection properties.

Transparent superhydrophobic coatings hold significant potential for applications such as windows and reflectors. However, issues such as fragility and high haze have limited their practicality. Drawing inspiration from dragonfly structures, we developed a transparent superhydrophobic coating by etching the polystyrene microsphere array semiembedded on a silicon oxide matrix and subsequently depositing the methyltrichlorosilane-derived nanofilaments.

High purity silicon is considered as the test mass material for future cryogenic gravitational-wave detectors, in particular Einstein Telescope-low frequency and LIGO Voyager [(LIGO) Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory]. To reduce the thermal noise of the test masses, it is necessary to study the sources of corresponding losses. Mechanical resonators with frequencies 300 Hz-6 kHz are successfully used for studying, for example, losses in optical coatings of the test mass.
