Exploring Tantalum as a Potential Dopant to Promote the Thermoelectric Performance of Zinc Oxide. | LitMetric

AI Article Synopsis

Article Abstract

Zinc oxide (ZnO) has being recognised as a potentially interesting thermoelectric material, allowing flexible tuning of the electrical properties by donor doping. This work focuses on the assessment of tantalum doping effects on the relevant structural, microstructural, optical and thermoelectric properties of ZnO. Processing of the samples with a nominal composition ZnTaO by conventional solid-state route results in limited solubility of Ta in the wurtzite structure. Electronic doping is accompanied by the formation of other defects and dislocations as a compensation mechanism and simultaneous segregation of ZnTaO at the grain boundaries. Highly defective structure and partial blocking of the grain boundaries suppress the electrical transport, while the evolution of Seebeck coefficient and band gap suggest that the charge carrier concentration continuously increases from = 0 to 0.008. Thermal conductivity is almost not affected by the tantalum content. The highest ~0.07 at 1175 K observed for ZnTaO is mainly provided by high Seebeck coefficient (-464 V/K) along with a moderate electrical conductivity of ~13 S/cm. The results suggest that tantalum may represent a suitable dopant for thermoelectric zinc oxide, but this requires the application of specific processing methods and compositional design to enhance the solubility of Ta in wurtzite lattice.

The current research focused on examining the effect of a coating made from Balangu seed mucilage (TSM-BM) and gelatin (Ge), with varying concentrations of dill essential oil (DEO) (0 %, 1 %, and 2 %) and zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-np) (0 % and 0.5 %), on the quality characteristics of cherries stored at 4 °C over intervals of 0, 4, 7, 11, 18, and 25 days. The study noted that the application of this coating, particularly when combined with DEO and ZnO-np, significantly reduced the rate of changes in several parameters, including weight loss, firmness, titratable acidity, pH, total soluble solids, ascorbic acid, total anthocyanin content, total phenolic content, and antioxidant activity (p˂0.

Obtaining effective extreme ultraviolet lithography (EUVL) materials for pragmatic applications remains challenging. The experimental design and conventional theoretical prediction are time-consuming and costly and hardly affordable to accelerate the discovery of commercial EUVL materials. In this work, we employed the machine learning (ML) technique to predict the ionization potential of promising EUVL materials, which is closely related to the photoresists' solubility switch.

Clinically, infectious bone defects represent a significant threat, leading to osteonecrosis, severely compromising patient prognosis, and prolonging hospital stays. Thus, there is an urgent need to develop a bone graft substitute that combines broad-spectrum antibacterial efficacy and bone-inductive properties, providing an effective treatment option for infectious bone defects. In this study, the precision of digital light processing (DLP) 3D printing technology was utilized to construct a scaffold, incorporating zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) modified barium titanate (BT) with hydroxyapatite (HA), resulting in a piezoelectric ceramic scaffold designed for the repair of infected bone defects.

One of the biggest challenges in food packaging is the creation of sustainable and eco-friendly packaging materials to shield foods from ultraviolet (UV) photochemical damage and to preserve the distinctive physical, chemical, and biological characteristics of foods throughout the supply chain. Accordingly, this study focuses on enhancing the UV shielding properties and biological activity of carboxylmethyl cellulose sodium (CMC) through modifications using zinc oxide (ZnO), copper oxide (CuO), and graphene oxide (GO) using the solution casting technique. The hybrid nanocomposites were characterized by fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectrophotometer, ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectrophotometer, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and x-ray diffraction (XRD).
