Birefringent crystals with optical anisotropy, which are employed to modulate the polarization of light, play a vital role in many fields of the optical industry. In this Communication, two mixed alkali metal hydroisocyanurates, RbLi(HCNO)·2HO () and CsLi(HCNO)·2HO (), were synthesized by a simple aqueous solution method, and they feature layered structures composed of [HCNO] ribbons through hydrogen bonds with the separation of water molecules and alkali cations. They exhibit a simultaneously short ultraviolet cutoff and giant birefringence, resulting from the perfect parallel alignment of π-conjugated (HCNO) anions. Interestingly, the first-principles calculations elucidated that the electronic states and optical properties are slightly different owing to the distinct p-π interaction between alkaline metals and the (HCNO) group despite the isostructural crystallographic lattice.

Background: Increasing patient demand and clinician burnout in rheumatology practices have highlighted the need for more efficient models of care (MOC). Interprofessional collaboration is essential for improving patient outcomes and clinician satisfaction.
Local Problem: Our current MOC lacks standardization and formal integration of Nurse Practitioners (NPs) and Physician Assistants (PAs), resulting in reduced clinician satisfaction and limited patient access.

Animals and humans possess an adaptive ability to rapidly estimate approximate numerosity, yet the visual mechanisms underlying this process remain poorly understood. Evidence suggests that approximate numerosity relies on segmented perceptual units modulated by grouping cues, with perceived numerosity decreasing when objects are connected by irrelevant lines, independent of low-level features. However, most studies have focused on physical objects.

Hong-Ou-Mandel (HOM) interference is the foundation of quantum optics to test the degree of indistinguishability of two incoming photons, playing a key role in quantum communication, sensing, and photonic quantum computing. Realizing high-visibility HOM interference with massively parallel optical channels is challenging due to the lack of available natural optical references for aligning independent arrayed laser pairs. Here, we demonstrate 50 parallel comb-teeth pairs of continuous-wave weak coherent photons HOM interference using two independently frequency post-aligned soliton microcombs (SMCs), achieving an average fringe visibility over 46%.

However, the intrinsic emission characteristics of TMDCs are inherently dependent on the specific material, which constrains their tunability for practical applications. In this study, we propose a strategy for the selective enhancement and modification of second-harmonic generation (SHG) emission in a multilayer WS flake through the implementation of a silicon (Si)-based circular Bragg grating (CBG) structure positioned on an Au/SiO substrate.

Mutations in Leucine-rich repeat kinase 2 (LRRK2) and PTEN-induced kinase 1 (PINK1) are associated with familial Parkinson's disease (PD). LRRK2 phosphorylates Rab guanosine triphosphatase (GTPases) within the Switch II domain while PINK1 directly phosphorylates Parkin and ubiquitin (Ub) and indirectly induces phosphorylation of a subset of Rab GTPases. Herein we have crossed LRRK2 [R1441C] mutant knock-in mice with PINK1 knock-out (KO) mice and report that loss of PINK1 does not impact endogenous LRRK2-mediated Rab phosphorylation nor do we see significant effect of mutant LRRK2 on PINK1-mediated Rab and Ub phosphorylation.
