Published: June 2019

The article seeks to introduce and contextualize the work "Characteristics of physical education" ("Aspectos de la educación física"), by Luis Bisquertt, which emphasizes the effort to ameliorate racial aspects in Chile, in 1930, thru physical education eugenics, whose body paradigm were the Hellenic classical statues. One of the key concepts of this document is plastic beauty, whose meaning overlaps with the idea of normality and sanity, creating pathologies on those bodies that were considered outside of the athletic standards, a situation that was aggravated by the sedentary conditions of modern times.

Nonacademic predictors of China medical licensing examination.

BMC Med Educ

January 2025

Department of Radiology and Tianjin Key Lab of Functional Imaging and Tianjin Institute of Radiology and State Key Laboratory of Experimental Hematology, Tianjin Medical University General Hospital, Tianjin, 300052, China.

Background: National Medical Licensing Examination (NMLE) is the entrance exam for medical practice in China, and its general medical knowledge test (GMKT) evaluates abilities of medical students to comprehensively apply medical knowledge to clinical practice. This study aimed to identify nonacademic predictors of GMKT performance, which would benefit medical schools in designing appropriate strategies and techniques to facilitate the transition from medical students to qualified medical practitioners.

Methods: In 1202 medical students, we conducted the deletion-substitution-addition (DSA) and structural equation model (SEM) analyses to identify nonacademic predictors of GMKT performance from 98 candidate variables including early life events, physical conditions, psychological and personality assessments, cognitive abilities, and socioeconomic conditions.

Background: Recently, there has been an increase in the prevalence of childhood obesity in Malaysia, raising concerns about increased cardiometabolic morbidity. MyBFF@school is a multifaceted program comprising physical activity, nutritional education, and psychological empowerment introduced to combat childhood obesity in Malaysia. The efficacy of a six-month intervention on the body composition of overweight and obese primary schoolchildren was evaluated.

Solar-driven production of renewable chemicals via biomass hydrogenation with green methanol.

Solar-driven, selective biomass hydrogenation is recognized as a promising route to renewable chemicals production, but remains challenging. Here, we report a TiO supported Cu single-atom catalyst with a four-coordinated Cu-O structure, which can be universally applied for solar-driven production of various renewable chemicals from lignocellulosic biomass-derived platform molecules with good yields using green methanol as a hydrogen donor, to address this challenge. It is significant that the biomass upgrading driven by natural sunlight on a gram scale demonstrates the great practical potential.

Lattice defect engineering advances n-type PbSe thermoelectrics.

Nat Commun

January 2025

School of Chemistry and Physics, ARC Research Hub in Zero-emission Power Generation for Carbon Neutrality, and Centre for Materials Science, Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, QLD, Australia.

Te-free thermoelectrics have garnered significant interest due to their immense thermoelectric potential and low cost. However, most Te-free thermoelectrics have relatively low performance because of the strong electrical and thermal transport conflicts and unsatisfactory compatibility of interfaces between device materials. Here, we develop lattice defect engineering through Cu doping to realize a record-high figure of merit of ~1.
