Borasilenes, that is complexes which contain a boron-silicon double bond, have scarcely been isolated to date. In pursuit of such species, (Me Si) SiB(Cl)NHI (2, NHI=bulky N-heterocyclic imine) was prepared and treated with KOtBu to achieve formal extrusion of ClSiMe . The formation of an elusive borasilene (3 ) is postulated and it was verified by isolation of the N-heterocyclic carbene adduct (Me Si) SiB(I )NHI (4, I =1,3,4,5-tetramethyl-imidazolin-2-ylidene). X-ray crystallographic study and theoretical calculations on 4 diagnosed a boron-silicon double bond with marked zwitterionic character. The negative charge resides at the Si atom which marks the apex of a trigonal pyramid. Structural comparison of 4 with boron cation congeners (5 , 6 ) suggests that the positive charge is mainly located at the trigonal planar-coordinated B center. The conversion of 4 with pinacolborane (HBpin, 2 equiv) resulted in cleavage of the double bond to produce (Me Si) Si(Bpin) and (NHI)BH (I ).

Kadcotriones and kadcoccitanes, renowned for their intricate 6/6/5-tricyclic and 6/6/5/6-tetracyclic ring systems, respectively, exhibit promising biological activities. This work proposes a biosynthetic pathway that elucidates how nature synthesizes these triterpenoids from lanosterol. Inspired by this pathway, we present the first biomimetic syntheses of kadcoccitane H and kadcotrione C methyl ester.

A methodology for radical cross-coupling with vinylsiloxanes and pyridinium salts under nickel catalysis is described. Easily implemented from inexpensive and abundant primary amines and terminal alkynes, this Hiyama coupling provides efficient access to (), (), and ()-alkenes with selectivity control. Operating under mild conditions, this robust strategy applies to a broad range of functional groups with diverse double bond stereochemistries.

Spirocalcaridines A and B are among the most challenging members of the marine invertebrate-derived alkaloids. Approaches to the construction and elaboration of the highly compact spirocyclic core are described. The synthesis of tricyclic guanidine via tandem oxidative amination dearomatizing spirocyclization (TOADS) using hypervalent iodine set the stage for total synthesis via the migration of the C4/C8 double bond to the C4/C5 position, followed by oxidation.
