This study addresses the influence of pore size variation on the effective thermal conductivity of open-cell foam structures. Numerical design procedure which renders it possible to control chosen structural parameters has been developed based on characterization of commercially available open-cell copper foams. Open-porous materials with various pore size distribution were numerically designed using the Laguerre-Voronoi Tessellations procedure. Heat transfer through an isolated structure was simulated with the finite element method. The results reveal that thermal conductivity is strongly related to porosity, which is in agreement with the literature. The influence of pore size distribution has also been observed and compared with analytical formulas proposed in the literature.

Three-dimensional printed Ti-6Al-4V hemipelvic prosthesis has become a current popular method for pelvic defect reconstruction. This paper presents a novel biomimetic hemipelvic prosthesis design that utilises patient-specific anatomical data in conjunction with the Voronoi diagram algorithm. Unlike traditional design methods that rely on fixed, homogeneous unit cell, the Voronoi diagram enables to create imitation of trabecular structure (ITS).

Human long bones exhibit pore size gradients with small pores in the exterior cortical bone and large pores in the interior cancellous bone. However, most current bone tissue engineering (BTE) scaffolds only have homogeneous porous structures that do not resemble the graded architectures of natural bones. Pore-size graded (PSG) scaffolds are attractive for BTE since they can provide biomimicking porous structures that may lead to enhanced bone tissue regeneration.

Four sets of indoor experiments were performed to examine the reinforcement mechanism of the electrochemical method. The findings indicate that increasing the valence of injected cations significantly affects the electrochemical reinforcement effect and the soil's microstructural properties.

The cell nuclei of Ophisthokonts, the eukaryotic supergroup defined by fungi and metazoans, is remarkable in the constancy of their double-membraned structure in both somatic and germ cells. Such remarkable structural conservation underscores common and ancient evolutionary origins. Yet, the dynamics of disassembly and reassembly displayed by Ophisthokont nuclei vary extensively.

There are abundant glycosylated substances such as cellulose, hemicellulose, and phytochemical glycosides in plants, which could be converted into functional chemicals such as monosaccharides, oligosaccharides, and bioactive aglycones by cleavage of glycosidic bonds using glycoside hydrolases (GHs). Among those GHs, β-glucosidase and β-xylosidase are the rate-limiting enzymes for degrading cellulose and hemicellulose, respectively, and can convert a variety of glycosylated substances. These two enzymes play important roles in the high value use of plant resources and have great potential applications.
