Clear-cut evidence has linked defective autophagy to Alzheimer's disease (AD). Recent studies underscore a unique hurdle in AD neuronal autophagy: impaired retrograde axonal transport of autophagosomes, potent enough to induce autophagic stress and neurodegeneration. Nonetheless, pertinent therapy is unavailable.

Idealized sources are commonly used to reproduce the traffic emission in street canyons in experimental and numerical investigations. However, it remains unclear whether idealized sources can accurately reproduce the pollutant dispersion compared to more realistic sources. The goal of this paper is to investigate the impact of idealized and realistic sources on traffic-induced pollutant concentration in a street canyon by numerical simulation with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).

Background/objectives: The gonadotropins luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and their receptors are major regulators of reproduction in mammals and are absent in insects. We previously established transgenic lines expressing a constitutively active human LH receptor variant (LHR) and the wild-type receptor (LHR; inactive in the absence of an agonist). That study showed that ubiquitously expression of LHR-but not of LHR-resulted in pupal lethality, and targeted expression in midline cells resulted in thorax/bristles defects.

Characteristic of all conifer needles, the transfusion tissue mediates the radial transport of water and sugar between the endodermis and axial vasculature. Physical constraints imposed by the needle's linear geometry introduce two potential extravascular bottlenecks where the opposition of sugar and water flows may frustrate sugar export: one at the vascular access point and the other at the endodermis. We developed a network model of the transfusion tissue to explore how its structure and composition affect the delivery of sugars to the axial phloem.

While the transcriptional regulation of the piRNA pathway components in germ cells has been documented in mice and flies, the mechanisms orchestrating the transcriptional program of the somatic piRNA pathway in ovaries remains unresolved. Here, we demonstrate that Traffic jam (Tj), an orthologue of a large Maf transcription factor in mammals, is a master regulator of the piRNA pathway in ovarian somatic cells, playing a crucial role in maintaining TE silencing and genomic integrity in somatic tissues.
