After powder of LaMoO (LMO) was prepared using complex polymerization, dense sintered bodies (96% relative density) of LMO were obtained from the powder through pressureless sintering in a synthesized air atmosphere. The water contact angle of the LMO ceramics increased gradually during storage in ambient air. It reached 93.6 ± 3.0° in 624 h. Results of XPS analysis and ozone treatment suggest that organic substances in ambient air adsorbed onto the LMO surface during storage. Measurements of antibacterial (Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus) and antiviral (bacteriophage Qβ and bacteriophage Φ6) activities of LMO revealed that their survival rates decreased more than 99.9% within 6 h. Based on results obtained using dissolved ion contact method and from comparison of the antibacterial and antiviral activities with LaO and MoO, one can infer that the synergistic effect of LaO and MoO plays an important role in the high antibacterial and antiviral activity of LMO.

There is growing concern about the potential risks posed by synthetic additives in industrial products, such as foods, cosmetics, agrochemicals, and personal care products. Many plant-derived essential oils (EOs) have been shown to exhibit excellent antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, and antioxidant activities, and may therefore be used as natural preservatives in these applications. However, most EOs have relatively low water solubility and are prone to chemical degradation during storage.

This report explores the potential of novel 6-aryloxy-2-aminopyrimidine-benzonitrile scaffolds as promising anti-infective agents in the face of the increasing threat of infectious diseases. Starting from 2-amino-4,6-dichloropyrimidine, a series of 24 compounds inspired from the antiviral drugs dapivirine, etravirine, and rilpivirine were designed and synthesized via a two-step reaction sequence in good yields. Biological testing of synthetic analogs revealed potent inhibition against both viral and tuberculosis targets.

The purpose of this study was to explore the inhibitory effect of andrographolide on the expression of key regulatory genes involved in the biofilm formation of Staphylococcus epidermidis (SE). Taking the film-producing strain Staphylococcus epidermidis SE1457 as the research object, the effect of andrographolide on the formation of Staphylococcus epidermidis biofilms was analyzed via crystal violet staining, and biofilm models of SE adhesion, aggregation and maturity were established in vitro. RT‒PCR was used to detect the effects of the expression of icaA-, atlE-, aap- and luxS-related genes of andrographolide on biofilm formation in SE.

Background: We assessed the willingness of female students at a Ugandan public university to use long-acting Cabotegravir (CAB-LA) for HIV prevention, given their high prevalence of HIV risk behaviours.
Methods: Using an online questionnaire, this cross-sectional study surveyed 346 female undergraduate students aged 18-25. Factors influencing their willingness were analysed with modified Poisson regression and robust standard errors.

Carrageenan-based biomaterials have attracted considerable attention in recent years due to their unique biological properties, including their biodegradability, compatibility, and lack of adverse effects. These biomaterials exhibit a variety of beneficial properties, such as antiviral, antitumor, and immunomodulatory effects, which set them apart from other polysaccharides. Stimuli-responsive carrageenan-based biomaterials have attracted particular attention due to their unique properties such as reducing systemic toxicity and controlling drug release.
