The activation of oxygen (O) under room condition is highly desirable for oxidative removal of organic pollutants in water. Herein, we report a graphite felt (GF)-supported α-MnO catalyst which is active for activating O with assistance of an anodic electric field. The electro-assisted catalytic wet air oxidation (ECWAO) process on MnO/GF is able to rapidly degrade a variety of dyes, pharmaceutics and personal care products (PPCPs) under room condition. The congo red, basic fuchsin, neutral red and methylene blue are completely mineralized in 160 min, and the bisphenol A, triclosan and ciprofloxacin are mineralized by 89.9%, 81.5% and 65.4%, respectively, in 300 min. Mechanistic study indicates a surface-catalyzed non-free radical pathway for the oxidation of organic pollutants by O in the ECWAO process. The oxygen vacancies on MnO are identified as the catalytically active sites, at which oxygen atom is transferred from O to organic molecule through chemisorbed oxygen species. The anodic electric field assists such an oxygen transfer pathway by activating the complex of chemisorbed oxygen species and organic molecule through electro-oxidation reaction. The ECWAO process on MnO/GF electrode exhibits a great potential for practical wastewater treatment under room condition.

The amount of incorporation of linear alcohols and ethers in HSiWO·6HO (HSiW·6HO, 50 wt %) supported on silica (SiO) was estimated by a conventional volumetric method and infrared (IR) spectroscopy, and the state of involved molecules was elucidated. First, the attribution of the key IR band at 2200 cm, which was observed for the water of crystallization of HSiW·6HO, to HO species (protons) was verified by coincident observation of thermogravimetric-differential thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and IR spectroscopy during thermal treatment in addition to the isotope exchange with DO. The 2200 cm band was gradually decreased in intensity by increasing the amount of adsorption of pyridine and was totally consumed at saturation, while the volumetric method provided the accurate number of included pyridine molecules.

Study Question: Do recent changes in European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) clinical guidelines result in more comprehensive diagnosis of women with endometriosis?

Summary Answer: The latest shift in clinical guidelines results in diagnosis of more women with endometriosis but current ESHRE diagnostic criteria do not capture a sizable percentage of women with the disease.

What Is Known Already: Historically, laparoscopy was the gold standard for diagnosing endometriosis, a complex gynecological condition marked by a heterogeneous set of symptoms that vary widely among women. More recently, changes in clinical guidelines have shifted to incorporate imaging-based approaches such as transvaginal sonography and magnetic resonance imaging.

Visible-Light-Induced Oxidation of Styrene by a Polyoxovanadate-Based Carboxylate Derivative.

Revealing the design and synthesis of precisely tailored crystalline catalysts for achieving efficient photocatalytic conversion of styrene into high-value-added products remains a challenging task. In this work, a highly stable crystalline polyoxovanadate functionalized by the dl-tartaric acid ligand H[VO(HO)(tart)]·HO [, tart = CHO] was successfully synthesized by conventional aqueous solution methods. The photocatalytic performance was evaluated for the photosynthesis of styrene oxide by employing an oxygen source as the oxidant in the visible light (>420 nm) conditions at room temperature with compound as a heterogeneous catalyst.

Effect of air temperature in indoor transition spaces on the thermal response of occupant during summer.

Innovation Institute for Sustainable Maritime Architecture Research and Technology, Qingdao University of Technology, Qingdao, 266033, People's Republic of China.

During the hot summer months, the significant temperature disparity between outdoor and indoor air-conditioned spaces can lead to thermal discomfort and pose a potential health risk. Transition areas such as corridors and elevator lobbies, serving as intermediary zones connecting indoors and outdoors, have been found effective in mitigating this thermal discomfort. In this study, three different temperatures (25 °C-case 1, 27 °C-case 2, and 29 °C-case 3) were employed to investigate the dynamic physiological regulation and thermal perception response of individuals when transitioning from an outdoor environment into an indoor neutral room through a transition space.

The study investigated the degradation of 3-methoxy-1-propanol (3M1P) by OH using the M06-2X/6-311++G(d, p) level, with CCSD(T) single-point corrections. We focused on hydrogen atom abstraction from various alkyl groups within the molecule. The rate coefficient for 3M1P degradation was calculated from the sum of the rate coefficients corresponding to the removal of H-atoms from primary (-CH), secondary (-CH-), tertiary (-CH< ), and alcohol (-ΟH) groups.
