Aim: To investigate the impact of workplace factors on psychological resilience in registered nurses.
Background: Nursing is characterized by persistent workplace adversity. Psychological resilience has been postulated as a means to mitigate the effects of workplace adversity. There is little research that examines the role of workplace factors (i.e., practice environment and bullying) in shaping resilience.
Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 480 registered New Zealand nurses. Psychological resilience was self-reported using the CD-RISC-10, while practice environment and workplace bullying were self-reported using PES-NWI and NAQ-R, respectively.
Results: For every point increase in PES-NWI and NAQ-R, there was an increase of 2.84 points (95%CI = 1.79, 3.89; p-value = <0.001) and a decrease of 0.07 points (95% CI = -0.12, -0.03; p-value = 0.002) in resilience, after controlling for demographic and job-related characteristics. These two factors explained for 12.6% of the variation in resilience. About 25.8% of registered nurses experienced bullying.
Conclusion: Workplace factors are associated with psychological resilience in registered nurses.
Implications For Nursing Management: Nurse managers are key to transforming health care work environments to promote positive outcomes for nurses, the organisation and patient outcomes. Future efforts to promote psychological resilience in registered nurses need to enhance the practice environment and reduce workplace bullying.
Objectives: This study assessed the feasibility and efficacy of "Online Resilience," a three-lesson online intervention based on third-wave cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) principles, inspired by acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), designed for emotionally healthy adults aged 75 and older.
Methods: A randomized controlled study with 62 participants (mean age = 81) divided into Experimental and Control groups. Outcomes included resilience, well-being, mood, and sleep quality, measured pre-, post-, and at one-month follow-up.
Objective: This study presents the personal experience of a 19-year-old student who fled the war in Ukraine, journeyed across multiple countries, and ultimately enrolled in a university psychology program in Croatia.
Methods: A collaborative autoethnographic approach was employed to explore the student's experience as a war refugee, traversing Europe, and beginning university life in a foreign country. Data were collected through the student's reflective writing.
Background: In South Kivu (Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo [DRC]), health districts (HDs) affected by chronic armed conflicts are devising coping mechanisms to continue offering healthcare services to the population. Nonetheless, this alone does not suffice to make them fully resilient to such conflicts. This study aims to explore the characteristics of these HDs' resilience.
Objective: This study aimed to explore how dyadic coping (DC) influences the psychological resilience (PR) levels of patients with cervical cancer (CC) and their spouses.
Methods: From April to June 2024, this cross-sectional study involved 177 dyads of patients with CC and their spouses from the gynecology and oncology wards of two tertiary hospitals in Xinjiang. Data were collected through questionnaires on demographic information, clinical characteristics, the Resilience Scale, and the Dyadic Coping Inventory, all of which were self-report measures.
Background: The caries severity in childhood may predict caries conditions in the future and even in adulthood in caries risk models. Nevertheless, the rate of recurrent caries after treatment of severe early childhood caries is high and correlated with behavioural factors, rather than clinical indicators. Compliance with the caries control programme has been demonstrated to prevent root caries development in head and neck cancer patients, suggesting that compliance with treatment protocols is a more important key to bringing about successful outcomes than treatment protocols themselves.
