Interfacial reaction and transport processes contribute crucially to the overall performance and impedance of electrochemical systems. The influence of the electrochemical double layer and the interfacial reactions on the impedance of lithium intercalation batteries is investigated with a modeling approach. Our generic theory for charge and electron transfer reactions at electrified interfaces and its simplified adaptation, a reduced interface model, are compared with the standard for electrochemical interface modeling, the Butler-Volmer ansatz, in terms of numerically simulated impedance spectra. Both of our interface models inherently provide significant impedance characteristics that go beyond the standard approach due to their theoretically consistent derivation. We discuss resistant and capacitive contributions of the double layer to impedance spectra and analyze the effect of strongly correlated interfacial dynamics.

The use of inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry in single particle mode (SP-ICP-MS) for the characterization of micro and nanostructured materials is a growing field of research. In this work, the possibility of expanding the boundaries to anisotropic structures including solid Pt-nanorods and hollowed FeO-nanotubes is presented. The obtained structures are evaluated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), high-resolution electron microscopy (HR-TEM) and SP-ICP-MS techniques.

Six novel phages belonging to the family were isolated using as a host. Phages MuffinTheCat, Badulia, DesireeRose, Bee17, SCoupsA, and LuzDeMundo were purified from environmental samples by students participating in the Science Education Alliance Phage Hunters Advancing Genomics and Evolutionary Science (SEA-PHAGES) program at Alliance University, New York. The phages have linear dsDNA genomes 15,438-15,636 bp with 112-120 bp inverted terminal repeats.

The increasing challenges posed by plant viral diseases demand innovative and sustainable management strategies to minimize agricultural losses. Exogenous double-stranded RNA (dsRNA)-mediated RNA interference (RNAi) represents a transformative approach to combat plant viral pathogens without the need for genetic transformation. This review explores the mechanisms underlying dsRNA-induced RNAi, highlighting its ability to silence specific viral genes through small interfering RNAs (siRNAs).

Outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) are double-layered structures of nanoscale lipids released by gram-negative bacteria. They have the same membrane composition and characteristics as primitive cells, which enables them to penetrate cells and tissues efficiently. These OMVs exhibit excellent membrane stability, immunogenicity, safety, and permeability (which makes it easier for them to penetrate into tumour tissue), making them suitable for developing cancer vaccines and drug delivery systems.

Background/objectives: Lactoferrin (Lf), a multifunctional iron-binding protein, has considerable potential for use as an active ingredient in food supplements due to its numerous positive effects on health. As Lf is prone to degradation, we aimed to develop a formulation that would ensure sufficient stability of Lf in the gastrointestinal tract and during product storage.

Methods: A simple, efficient, and well-established technology that has potential for industrial production was used for the double-coating of neutral pellet cores with an Lf layer and a protective enteric coating.
