Methicillin-resistant (MRSA) often induces chronic osteomyelitis and then bone defects. Here, gentamicin-loaded silk/nanosilver composite scaffolds were developed to treat MRSA-induced chronic osteomyelitis. AgNO was reduced with silk as a reducing agent in formic acid, forming silver nanoparticles that were distributed uniformly in the composite scaffolds. Superior antibacterial properties against MRSA were achieved for the composite scaffolds, without the compromise of osteogenesis capacity. Then gentamicin was loaded on the scaffolds for better treatment of osteomyelitis. results showed effective inhibition of the growth of MRSA bacteria, confirming the promising future in the treatment of chronic osteomyelitis.

Bacterial infection has become the most dangerous factor in tissue repair, which strongly affects the tissue regeneration efficiency and wellness of patients. Piezoelectric materials exhibit the outstanding advantage of producing electrons without external power supply. The ability of electron enrichment and reactive oxygen species generation through noninvasive stimulations enables piezoelectric materials the potential applications of antibacterial.

Cartilage repair remains a significant challenge due to the tissue's limited innate regenerative capacity. Despite advances in techniques such as microfracture, autologous chondrocyte implantation (ACI), and osteochondral grafting, long-term outcomes are often compromised by complications, including suboptimal tissue integration, graft resorption, and mechanical instability. Recently, biologically augmented scaffold-based cartilage repair has emerged as a promising approach for full-thickness osteochondral lesions.

The application of a three-dimensional (3D)-printed biological functional scaffold in the repair of bone defects is a promising strategy. In this study, strontium-containing hydroxyapatite (SrHA) powder was synthesized by the hydrothermal method, and then poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL)/HA and PCL/SrHA composite scaffolds were prepared by the high-temperature melt extrusion 3D printing technology. The basic physical and chemical properties, in vitro biological properties, osteogenesis, and angiogenesis abilities of the scaffold were studied.

Bone tissue engineering is a promising field that aims to rebuild the bone tissue using biomaterials, cells, and signaling molecules. Materials like natural and synthetic polymers, inorganic materials, and composite materials are used to create scaffolds that mimic the hierarchical microstructure of bone. Stem cells, particularly mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), play a crucial role in bone tissue engineering by promoting tissue regeneration and modulating the immune response.

Tissue engineering (TE) involves repairing, replacing, regeneration, or improving the function of tissues and organs by combining cells, growth factors and scaffold materials. Among these, scaffold materials play a crucial role. Silk fibroin (SF), a natural biopolymer, has been widely used in the TE field due to its good biodegradability, biocompatibility, and mechanical properties attributed to its chemical composition and structure.
