The family Caponiidae Simon, 1890 is reported for the first time from China. The total number of the known spider families from China increases to 72 with the addition of this family newly recorded in the present paper. Based on male and female specimens collected from Guangxi, China, Platnick & Jäger, 2008 is illustrated and a global distribution map is generated.

The genus Nops is a group of Neotropical species of the family Caponiidae, which is included in the subfamily Nopinae. This group is distributed from the Caribbean Islands to the north of Argentina and presents short distribution ranges. Currently, Colombia only has one recorded species; however, it could be due to poor sampling of spiders living in the soil.

We present a phylogenetic analysis of spiders using a dataset of 932 spider species, representing 115 families (only the family Synaphridae is unrepresented), 700 known genera, and additional representatives of 26 unidentified or undescribed genera. Eleven genera of the orders Amblypygi, Palpigradi, Schizomida and Uropygi are included as outgroups. The dataset includes six markers from the mitochondrial (12S, 16S, COI) and nuclear (histone H3, 18S, 28S) genomes, and was analysed by multiple methods, including constrained analyses using a highly supported backbone tree from transcriptomic data.

New members of the spider family Caponiidae from Brazil and Chile are presented. Three new species in previously known genera are described: from Chile, and the Brazilian and , both belonging to a genus known only from its damaged type. Additionally, two new non-nopine Brazilian genera are proposed: including three new species: , and ; and , known only from the type species Both new genera have entire, rather than sub-segmented tarsi.
