Metabolism is a fundamental characteristic of life. In 2010, we discovered that the metabolic enzyme CTP synthase (CTPS) can assemble a snake like structure inside cells, which we call the cytoophidium. Including CTPS, an increasing number of metabolic enzymes have been found to form cytoophidia in cells.

Along the northern Mid-Atlantic Ridge (nMAR), in habitats under moderate (<10 °C) hydrothermal influence on the Snake Pit vent field (SP), large assemblages dominated by Bathymodiolin mussels remain poorly characterised, contrary to those in warmer habitats dominated by gastropods and alvinocaridid shrimps that were recently described. In this study, we assessed and compared the population structure, biomass, diversity and trophic interactions of two Bathymodiolus puteoserpentis assemblages and their associated fauna at SP. Three sampling units distanced by 30 cm were sampled in 2014 during the BICOSE cruise at the top of the Moose site (''Elan'' site), while few meters further down three others, distanced by ∼1 m were obtained in 2018 during the BICOSE 2 cruise at the edifice's base.

Pro-survival BCL-2 proteins prevent the initiation of intrinsic apoptosis (mitochondria-dependent pathway) by inhibiting the pro-apoptotic proteins BAX and BAK, while BH3-only proteins promote apoptosis by blocking pro-survival BCL-2 proteins. Disruptions in this delicate balance contribute to cancer cell survival and chemoresistance. Recent advances in cancer therapeutics involve a new generation of drugs known as BH3-mimetics, which are small molecules designed to mimic the action of BH3-only proteins.

Reservoirs in arid landscapes provide critical water storage and hydroelectric power but influence the transport and biogeochemical cycling of mercury (Hg). Improved management of reservoirs to mitigate the supply and uptake of bioavailable methylmercury (MeHg) in aquatic food webs will benefit from a mechanistic understanding of inorganic divalent Hg (Hg(II)) and MeHg fate within and downstream of reservoirs. Here, we quantified Hg(II), MeHg, and other pertinent biogeochemical constituents in water (filtered and associated with particles) at high temporal resolution from 2016-2020.

BJcuL is a snake venom C-type lectin (SVCTL) purified from the snake's venom Bothrops jararacussu. It has been previously demonstrated that BJcuL induces the accumulation of pro-apoptotic proteins of the extrinsic pathway, such as FADD and caspase-8, in the colorectal cancer cell line HT29, suggesting that the lectin may be able to enhance TRAIL-induced apoptosis. To test this hypothesis, we exposed two colorectal cancer cell lines, HT29 and HCT116, to increasing concentrations of BJcuL (1-20 μg/mL) in the presence or absence of TRAIL.
