Human centrin 2 (HsCen2) is a member of the EF-hand protein that plays a critical role in the centrosome duplication and separation during cell division. Reversible protein phosphorylation is an important regulatory mechanism for centrin. To obtain insight into the structural basis for the functional effects of phosphorylation, it was verified that the serine residue at position 170 of HsCen2 can be phosphorylated by protein kinase A (PKA) using P NMR spectroscopy. While the protein was phosphorylated, the extents of α-helix and the exposed hydrophobic surfaces on HsCen2 were decreased significantly. In the present paper, we reported the regulation and control of peptide p22-XPC binding with HsCen2 by isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) and spectra. After being phosphorylated, the affinity of p22-XPC with HsCen2 was weakened almost 2 orders of magnitudes. And removing calcium ions from the system, no significant binding between them has been observed. Their binding was reversible. Functions of XPC may be double-regulated and controlled by calcium ions as well as phosphorylation. These results are of significance for understanding the relationship between PTM and metal regulation.

This study analysed the influence of montelukast (MON), a cysteinyl leukotriene receptor antagonist, and nifedipine, an L-type voltage-gated Ca2+ channel blocker, on the contractility of the porcine uterine smooth muscle. Myometrial strips were collected from the sexually immature (n=8), cyclic (12-14 days of the oestrous cycle; n=8) and pregnant (27-28 days of pregnancy; n=8) gilts and stimulated with a) MON or nifedipine at concentrations of 10-8-10-4 M and b) increasing concentrations of nifedipine after previous administration of MON at a concentration of 10-4 M. The changes in the tension, amplitude and frequency of contractions were determined with the Hugo Sachs Elektronik equipment for measuring isometric contractions.

There are hazardous substances such as chloride salts and heavy metals in the municipal solid waste incineration fly ash (WIFA). During thermal treatment, the concentrated chlorides promote the volatilization of heavy metals, increasing the ecological risk. The water washing method is also employed as a pre-treatment for WIFA, but a substantial volume of wastewater with high chloride content is produced that poses challenges for effective treatment.
