Methods: In this case report, we present an in-depth narrative of a patient who was subjected to mechanical thrombectomy (MT) for an obstruction in the main trunk and bifurcation of the left middle cerebral artery subsequent to Infective Endocarditis (IE). Initial intervention using a solitary-stent technique proved to be ineffective; thus, we shifted to a dual-stent strategy, which successfully recanalized the compromised blood vessel.

Results: The dual-stent retriever method can be especially advantageous for treating persistent clots that occur at arterial bifurcations resisting the efforts of a single-stent retriever during the MT process.

Acute thrombosis of ductus arteriosus aneurysm causing bilateral pulmonary artery occlusion in a neonate.

J Cardiothorac Surg

December 2024

Department of congenital heart surgery, Guangdong Cardiovascular Institute, Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital (Guangdong Academy of Medical Sciences), Southern Medical University, Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, China.

A 9-day-old male neonate was found to have a systolic murmur during a routine follow-up for skin jaundice. Imaging revealed a large mass at the bifurcation of the main pulmonary artery, causing significant bilateral stenosis. The patient underwent emergency surgery due to critically compromised pulmonary blood flow.

Mixed affective states in bipolar disorder (BD) is a common psychiatric condition that occurs when symptoms of the two opposite poles coexist during an episode of mania or depression. A four-dimensional model by Goldbeter (Progr Biophys Mol Biol 105:119-127, 2011; Pharmacopsychiatry 46:S44-S52, 2013) rests upon the notion that manic and depressive symptoms are produced by two competing and auto-inhibited neural networks. Some of the rich dynamics that this model can produce, include complex rhythms formed by both small-amplitude (subthreshold) and large-amplitude (suprathreshold) oscillations and could correspond to mixed bipolar states.

Background: Jailed wire (JW) in the side branch (SB) is recommended during coronary bifurcation provisional stenting, but real benefit is unsure. Our objective was to evaluate benefit of a JW technique in the CABRIOLET registry.

Methods: In CABRIOLET, including 500 patients, we compared the primary composite endpoint poor final SB angiographic result (TIMI flowB, thrombosis, residual stenosis>70%, or additional SB stenting) whether JW was performed or not.

The tunable geometrical properties of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) endow them with the capacity to exhibit distinct behaviors with respect to both macroscopic (color) and microscopic (resonance wavelength) aspects, which has been extensively utilized in localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) sensing platforms. Additionally, functionalizing AuNP surfaces enhances the platforms' capabilities, allowing for the detection of a wide range of molecules related to various aspects of human health. In this review, we comprehensively elucidate the fundamental principles of LSPR biosensing and provide an in-depth survey of the preparation processes for metal nanoparticles, encompassing deposition technology for large-scale particle production as well as ion reduction methods that afford superior control over the particles' physical and chemical attributes.
