The aluminium matrix composites (AMCs) have become a tough competitor for various categories of metallic alloys, especially ferrous materials, owing to their tremendous servicing in the diversified application. In this work, additional efforts have been made to formulate a mathematical model, by using dimensionless analysis, able to predict the mechanical characteristics of the AMCs that have already been optimized and characterized by the authors. Here, the experimental and statistical data obtained from the Taguchi L18 orthogonal array and analysis of variance (ANOVA) have been used. They permit collection of the output responses and allow the identification of significant process parameters, respectively, which thereafter were used to design the mathematical model. Second order polynomial equations have been obtained from the specific output response and the relevant input parameter were incorporated with the highest level of contribution. The obtained quadratic equations indicate the regression values (R) equal to unity, hence, proving the performances of the fit. The results demonstrate that the developed mathematical models present very high accuracy for predicting the output responses.

Linear elastic iterative method for stability ultimate capacity of equal-leg angle towers.

Sci Rep

December 2024

Key Laboratory of Disaster Prevention and Structural Safety of China Ministry of Education, School of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Guangxi University, Nanning, 530004, China.

An efficient linear elastic iterative method is proposed for the stability ultimate capacity of equal-leg angle towers, using an elastic modulus adjustment strategy in this paper. The angle steel stability generalized yield function (GYF) of AS/NZS4600 is selected, on which a precise homogeneous generalized yield function (HGYF) is developed through dimensionless analysis and regression. Based on the HGYF, the element bearing ratio is proposed as a dynamic threshold for distinguishing high-stress and low-stress elements in equal-leg angle elements.

Unveiling the impact of pipe materials on water hammer in pressure pipelines: an experimental and numerical study.

Water hammer (WH) is a phenomenon characterized by the rapid opening or closing of valves or pumps in pipelines, resulting in a disruptive noise, intense vibrations, and potential damage to pipes, fittings, structures, and even human safety. While WH arresters are commonly employed to mitigate this issue in smaller plumbing systems, alternative solutions are required for larger applications like power plants. Researchers have proposed the utilization of pipe materials with a low modulus of elasticity in areas prone to WH events, as these materials possess the capability to absorb a significant portion of the resulting vibrations.

A simplified theoretical description of multiple-quantum excitation and mixing for nuclear magnetic resonance of half-integer quadrupolar nuclei is presented. The approach recasts the multiple-quantum nutation behavior in terms of reduced excitation and mixing curves through a scaling of the first-order offset frequency by the quadrupolar coupling constant. The two-dimensional correlation of the static first-order anisotropic line shape to the second-order anisotropic magic-angle-spinning (MAS) line shape is utilized to transform the three-dimensional integral over the three Euler angles into a single integral over the dimensionless first-order offset parameter.

The studies conducted in this contribution are based on the analysis of the dynamics of a homogeneous network of five inertial neurons of the Hopfield type to which a unidirectional ring coupling topology is applied. The coupling is achieved by perturbing the next neuron's amplitude with a signal proportional to the previous one. The system consists of ten coupled ODEs, and the investigations carried out have allowed us to highlight several unusual and rarely related dynamics, hence the importance of emphasizing them.

Analysis of electrical activities in a functional neuron with dual memristors.

College of Computer Science and Technology, Xi'an University of Science and Technology, Xi'an 710054, China. Electronic address:

Neuron as a charged body, it is easily disturbed by the external electromagnetic field, which changes the electrical activities of the neurons. In fact, the interference of external electric or magnetic field is the process of energy injection of neurons, the injection of energy will redistribute the field energy inside the neurons, and the redistribution of energy will change the electrical activities of the neurons. Therefore, we design a neuron model with double memristors to explore the external electromagnetic field on the regulation of neural electrical activity.
