Through ligand-directed assembly of trapezoidal {Ti} building blocks stabilized by dimethylglyoxime, eight titanium-oxo molecular clusters with a sandwich or square planar type structures were successfully constructed, including the first success on the combination of porphyrin and titanium-oxo clusters.

The synthesis and guest recognition properties of a neutral Pd-cubic cage, [{Pd(NPr)PO}(μ-Cl)] 1 are reported. The formation of the cubical assembly takes place by an exclusive one-pot ligand-assisted pathway directed by an oximido linker. The initial coordination of the oximido ligand pre-organizes the [Pd(NPr)PO] polyhedral building units into a tetrameric intermediate, which then transforms into an oximido-tethered tetrahedral assembly and to the cubical cage 1 in the presence of chloride ions.

Aggregation-induced emission luminogen (AIEgen)-functionalized organic-inorganic hybrid nanoparticles (OINPs) are an emerging category of multifunctional nanomaterials with vast potential applications. The spatial arrangement and positioning of AIEgens and inorganic compounds in AIEgen-functionalized OINPs determine the structures, properties, and functionalities of the self-assembled nanomaterials. In this work, a facile and general emulsion self-assembly tactic for synthesizing well-defined AIEgen-functionalized OINPs is proposed by coassembling alkane chain-functionalized inorganic nanoparticles with hydrophobic organic AIEgens.

Blends comprising organic semiconductors and inorganic quantum dots (QDs) are relevant for many optoelectronic applications and devices. However, the individual components in organic-QD blends have a strong tendency to aggregate and phase-separate during film processing, compromising both their structural and electronic properties. Here, we demonstrate a QD surface engineering approach using electronically active, highly soluble semiconductor ligands that are matched to the organic semiconductor host material to achieve well-dispersed inorganic-organic blend films, as characterized by X-ray and neutron scattering, and electron microscopies.

Direct chemical modification of native antibodies in a site-specific manner remains a great challenge. Ligand-directed conjugation can achieve the selective modification of antibodies, but usually requires multiple extra steps for ligand release and cargo assembly. Herein, we report a novel, traceless strategy to enable the facile and efficient one-step synthesis of site-specific antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) by harnessing a thioester-based acyl transfer reagent.

Precise control of the structures and magnetic properties of a molecular material constitutes an important challenge to realize tailor-made magnetic function. Herein, we report that the ligand-directed coordination self-assembly of a dianionic cobalt(II) mononuclear complex and selective organic linkers has led to two distinct dicobalt(II) complexes, [Co(pdms)(bpym)]·2MeCN (1) and [Co(pdms)(bipm)]·3DMF (2) (Hpdms = 1,2-bis(methanesulfonamide)benzene; bpym = 2,2'-bipyrimidine; bimp = 1,4-bis[(1-imidazol-1-yl)methyl]benzene). Structural analyses revealed that complexes 1 and 2 are discrete binuclear molecules containing two neutral {Co(pdms)} species bridged by bpym and bimp ligands, respectively, forming an exchange-coupled CoII2 dimer and a rare CoII2 metallocycle.
