SnO has been extensively studied as an anode material for sodium-ion batteries, which, however, has long been subjected to poor conductivity and large volume expansion accompanied with an unsatisfactory electrochemical performance. Here, novel interlaced SnO nanoflakes are synthesized directly on a carbon cloth collector via hydrothermal and annealing treatment and then coated with polypyrrole (PPy) via electrodeposition. The as-prepared flexible SnO@PPy on the carbon cloth exhibits a high initial capacity of 1172.1 mAh g and an outstanding cycling stability with 85% capacity retention after 300 cycles at 0.1 A g, which can be contributed to the interlaced SnO nanoflakes as well as the coating of PPy. This result shows promising potential for construction of an electrode in high-performance energy storage fields.

Building insights into the structure-performance relationship of catalysts has been emphasized recently. However, it remains a challenge due to catalysts' various and complex structures, especially the easily overlooked influence of the support material. Here, we reveal the crucial influences of boron introduction on synthesizing 3D carbon nanotube monoliths with embedded multistate Co metals, i.

Transition metal phosphorus (TMPs) and sulfides have attracted extensive attention as important candidates to replace noble metal-based hydrogen evolution (HER) catalysts. However, the insufficient specific surface area, low conductivity and easy detachments from electrode seriously affect the HER catalytic activity and stability. Herein, a novel self-supported hollow Janus-structured NiCoP/P-MoS heterojunction is designed on carbon cloth (CC) as high-performance electrocatalyst for alkaline HER.

Scaling of steel surfaces, prevalent in various industrial applications, results in significant operational inefficiencies and maintenance costs. Inspired by the natural hydrophobicity of springtail (Collembola) skin, which employs micro- and nanostructures to repel water, we investigate the application of silicone nanofilaments (SNFs) as a coating on steel surfaces to mitigate scaling. Silicone nanofilaments, previously successful on polymers, textiles, and glass, are explored for their hydrophobic properties and stability on steel.

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) due to abundant apertures, adjustable components, and multi-purpose structures have broad application prospects in supercapacitors. However, its low conductivity, poor stability, and difficulty growing evenly on the conductive substrate limit the electrochemical energy storage performance. Herein, with FeCoNi-OH nanosheets serving as the precursors, the trimetallic FeCoNi-MOF (FCNM) multilayer structure is successfully synthesized on activated carbon cloth (AC), and its optimal growth state (FCNM/AC-12 h) is achieved by regulating the reaction time.

The urea oxidation reaction (UOR) is characterized by a lower overpotential compared to the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) during electrolysis, which facilitates the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) at the cathode. Charge distribution, which can be modulated by the introduction of a heterostructure, plays a key role in enhancing the adsorption and cleavage of chemical groups within urea molecules. Herein, a facile all-room temperature synthesis of functional heterojunction NiCoS/CoMoS grown on carbon cloth (CC) is presented, and the as-prepared electrode served as a catalyst for simultaneous hydrogen evolution and urea oxidation reaction.
